Evan Hildenbrandt is definitely a prospect worth watching. He's only 19 years old and has a projectable body at 6'2" 190. Baseball America says he already has a plus fastball and a very good tight curveball. He, along with other fellow Canadian Kyle Lotzkar has a chance to develop into a very good pitching prospect.

Why just now pitching a full two years after he was drafted? A combination of injury and being extremely young, or just the latter?

I had a brain cramp. Hildenbrandt was a 6th round pick in 2007, not 2006 as I originally posted.

Oh, I gotcha. That makes more sense. Last year's draft just keeps looking better and better.

Nefi Soto is out of the Billings lineup tonight. He's been red hot and they've only played six games so it's not like he needs a rest. Maybe a promotion to Dayton?

No, late scratch. He had some pains in his side and was pulled from the lineup.

Why didn't Hildenbrandt pitch last year for those in the know?

I believe it was late in the season when he signed and by that time the season was nearly over.

He signed on Aug. 15th, the deadline for draft picks to sign. The league was over two weeks later.

About time they put the boxscore up. I've probably checked 50 times for it tonight. Anyway, nice to see another good game by Duran. That's now three extra-base hits and four walks in 19 atbats. I've been very impressed with his ability to draw a walk so far.

I wouldn't be surprised if the walks came down drastically once he started playing in the States. The pitchers he's going against aren't exactly known for their control.

But the walks are a great sign of his patience at the plate. Duran has shown two tools I normally question in "great talent" signings-- patience and speed.

The power should come in a couple years (although three extra-base hits isn't at all bad), the glove and arm will show up later as well. But the patience is really good to see this early.

They didn't when I had posted it. I said screw it and went to dominicansummerleague.com and they had it up.

Duran already has a stolen bases and three triples. Maybe it'd serve the Reds better if he didn't fill out so much and stayed a center fielder.
