Warren Spahn had to be an amazing pitcher. He finished his career with 363 wins. If hadn't have been for WWII he would have most likely passed the 400 wins mark. He lost most of the 42 season and all of 43 through 45 and about half of the 46 season due to WWII.

Tough loss to the beginning of a do or die series for the Reds. Reds are now 11 games out of first. Looks like it will take a miracle to win the division this season. Morgan must have been hurting pretty bad not to start this game.

Close call to the end of the streak in game one. :scared: This may have been his most close call of the streak. Although it seemed like he went to his last AB a few other times.

Eddie Taubensee. He was always one of my favorite players for some reason. He was a great guy. I remember he used to sign autographs for what seemed like hours after the game. I was in attendance in a game in late 1999 when he and Aaron Boone both hit a grand slam in consecutive innings.

You are the second person so say that about Mike Frank. MrCinatit said the same thing a little over a week ago, while you were on vacation.

Mike Frank was a left-handed outfielder who was a highly-regarded prospect on the fast track in the Reds minor-league system, but fizzled badly at the major-league level. Frank was a seventh-round pick in the 1997 draft, and was in the big leagues only a year later. But he lasted only a month with the Reds, and was sent back down to the minors, never to return. He was a left-handed version of Pat Watkins, Brady Clark, Chris Denorfia, Chad Mottola, and Steve Gibralter.

Here's some more info on Householder's home run. I get a daily e-mail from baseballlibrary.com that has interesting things that happen on that day and this was part of today's. It seems like I vaguely remember this. I'm sure it was on the highlights on every sports news show that evening.

The Reds score 8 runs in the first inning and go on to beat the visiting Giants‚ 15-5. Paul Householder drives in 4 runs‚ 2 on a freak inside-the-park homer. With Oester on 1B‚ Householder hits a shallow fly that LF Chris Smith loses in the sun and it bounces over his head. Smith then slips going after the ball and the 2 baserunners race around the bases. Oester slides across the plate just ahead of Householder's slide‚ which is so close he spikes Oester's knee.

Actually, Householder's inside-the-parker was a three-run homer. Cesar Cedeño was on second.

Householder had speed, that's for sure.

I still consider Householder one the biggest busts the Reds have had since I have been a fan. He sure didn't live up to his hype after he came up.
