a little off topic here..ok way off topic. What time will the gates open for the july 4th reds game??

back on topic.. i think its only a matter of time before we see some shaking up with the minor league rosters as i would like to see dickerson up with the big club and cumberland moved to AAA

Chattanooga up 7-4. Justin Turner is 4-4 today.

OnBaseMachine
07-02-2008, 02:28 PM
You just know Turner is going to make it to the majors as a utility guy who plays like his hair is on fire...and Reds fans will love him.

dougdirt

Lookouts threatening in the 7th. Dorn was HBP and Valaika singled after him. No outs with Cumberland coming up.

camisadelgolf
07-02-2008, 02:33 PM
Chris Valaika is one of the Reds' best prospects, right? Well, maybe people would give Turner more respect if they saw these numbers:

Year Age Tm Lg Lvl Aff G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS SB CS SB% SH SF IBB HBP GDP
Valaika 288 1120 174 338 72 9 32 191 78 243 .302 .356 .468 .824 7 11 39% 5 18 0 26 31
Turner 249 965 168 298 56 8 19 133 94 151 .309 .379 .442 .821 28 11 72% 1 9 1 20 19

Valaika has noticeably better power numbers, but Justin Turner has been looking almost equally as good since being drafted. That might be an excellent tandem up the middle in a couple years.

Craig Tatum just drove in one and the Lookouts are now up 8-4 with runners at 2nd and 3rd still. Tatum is 3-4 with 3 RBI.

Krivsky acquired Shaun Cumberland for Calvin Medlock and Sean Henry for Jeff Conine. Those could end up being steals.

Krivsky acquired Shaun Cumberland for Calvin Medlock and Sean Henry for Jeff Conine. Those could end up being steals.

The Jeff Conine deal is already a steal, in my opinion. Two warm bodies for a guy who was retiring after the year? And one of them is young, toolsy, and has a career OPS near .800? Nice.

Robert Manuel is human.... he just allowed a 2 out double. What is this world coming to?

OnBaseMachine
07-02-2008, 02:52 PM
Robert Manuel is another possible steal by Krivsky. He was acquired from the Mets for Dave Williams.

BTW the Reds released Andy Green.

camisadelgolf
07-02-2008, 03:03 PM
The Reds traded for Aaron Herr to release Andy Green? Maybe Andy Green wanted to retire, and the Reds asked him to stick around until they could get a utility guy to take his place?

Bailey allowed an infield hit and a walk so far in the 5th.... wild pitch has runners at 2nd and 3rd iwth no outs.

Strikes out the third batter.

Weird play. Grounder to Janish, who throws to second base and gets no one out and the run scores.

Double play ball gets muffed by the second baseman and everyone is safe....

walked in a run on what looked like a strike at the waist on a curveball to me....

Homer is getting squeezed now. Walked in another run. The ump is missing calls. Middle of the plate 3 inches above the knees was just called ball 4.

Pop up to CF.

Line out ends the inning.

That was an ugly inning thanks in large part to the defense.

Homer lost his control that inning.

5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 6 K

He did, but he didn't lose it as bad as it looks in the box score. The ump has a very tight strike zone tonight, and the defense helped him throw about 25 extra pitches that inning.

I really hope that Bailey is on the way back to finding his stuff...7k's in 6 innings is something that we really havent been seeing from him as of late...If not for the bad inning where the defense really hurt him, he could of probably went 7 strong tonight...

hitting in Billings says very little about hitting in Dayton.

however, if a guy can't hit in Billings, then he needs to start pitching or seek another sport

at age 18, Jay Bruce OPSed .815 at Billings. the Billings threshold is around .750.

so he passed the Billings threshold with ease. He was allowed to ride the big boy rides.
