Reds need a CF, I would like to see the Reds go after

Gary Mathews JR. or Ichiro(sp).I think anyone of those 2 would make a world of difference for the Reds.The Angels are going after Holliday from the Rocks and will have to unload Mathews to make it happen.The Mariners are going to rebuklid and Ichiro is there top talent to trade.I say the Reds need to go hard after one of these 2 guys, sign Dunn to a LTC of 4 years and put Bruce in RF.Now thats a solid OF that would help the Reds win next year.

Agreed. The Angels gave him his current contract after 1 career year in 06. He's owns a career OBP of .333, and adding him to this team would be more money flushed down the endless mediocrity toilet.

Jerry Hairston plays the game as hard as anyone on this team, and harder than 99% of the team. He's one of the gutsiest players to come through in the last several years, and i would take 9 cheaters if they played the game the way he has so far for the reds. I think several people people who throw stones at people like hairston, may not understand the pressure you would be under in his situation, and may make the decision that he did.

I would like to see Hairston in CF and which ever combo of Bruce and Griffey in LF and RF worked best. IMO this is realistic and would be great. They would have to pick up a good backup or use Hopper, and this would get rid of Patterson. This is of course assuming Dunn will no longer be a Red, which I am not convinced of.

How do you know some of your current Reds favorites didnt "cheat" Hairston was named in a report, never actually failed anything. How many big leaguers do you think have done some sort of steroid, hgh, performance enhancer and not been caught. Not to mention every owner, executive, gm, manager, etc that was associated with the plague that was in baseball for a while. With that kind of attitude, you should probably just completely hate the game of baseball, because we can't prove everyone who did or didnt "use" or get associated with it.

People cutting corner at a normal job is no different than cheating in baseball. Yet everyone doesn't seem to frown until its a big leaguer. I'm not saying either are right at all, but it seems like most people in the world turn their heads anyway.

I actually just skimmed through this thread while I was at work earlier and wouldn't have quoted you directly if I read it more thoroughly. I was directing my comments more at fans in general who refer to the named players in the Mitchell Report as cheaters.

I get tired of these players being categorized as "cheaters" when pretty much all of baseball was involved in one way or another. And a lot of the named players were never actually proven to have taken the drugs. Also, the current President of the U.S. was possibly one of the biggest head turners in the whole steroid E.R.A., fielding a team of Conseco, Palmeiro, IRod, Juan Gone, etc. So even if Hairston did use, I don't see how it is still relevant to his future with the ballclub.

I hope he'll get called up in September also, but the thing that concerns me with him is that he has struckout over 100 times a season his past 5 years in the minors. And those numbers are in shortened seasons, so I'm not convinced he can get on base enough to warrant playing everyday.

I think if Dunn or Griffey get moved Dickerson will be in the starting lineup the next day. The guy isn't going to be a superstar but he'll at least be better than Patterson with the bat and is probably just as good of an outfielder. They could do a lot worse.

To me there is a difference in trying steroids a few times and using/abusing them to advance your career.

For instance, there may have been a few players who possibly used steroids to help heal themselves from an injury but after hearing all the bad stuff about them, never used/tried them again.

Then there were those players who knew all the bad stuff and used them for years and years and years and overflated their abilities.

Kinda like the kid who tries pot once or twice, decides it's not for him, and comes to his senses and never does it again. Doesn't make it right, but they made the right decision in the end.

Then there are the kids who only when they get caught smoking pot think they should quit, but even then they don't really want to or they don't. Kinda like Barry Bonds and others.

There is a difference. Some people make minor mistakes that they repent and turn from and others have no smidgeon of repentance about it.

do you consider yourself a liar because you have lied one time? I agree with the fellow earlier who talked about how people cut corners for an advantage at every job they do, pro athletes are just under a microscope. Not saying either is right, but I wouldn't say i didn't want a guy because of it.

I hope you have great faith in your prayer, cause he is done. I loved watching him play, nad he is a great guy-he is from the town in RI I played in one year, and I followed him that year while he was still in high school (my team worked out at his high school for practice).
