Clayton Shunick of the Billings Mustangs was named the Pioneer League pitcher of the week.

In two starts, the 6-foot-1 right-hander went 1-0 and allowed just two runs in 11 innings. He also struck out 12 and walked none while allowing six hits.

Shunick, a fifth-round draft choice of the Cincinnati Reds out of North Carolina State, started the Dehler Park debut for the Mustangs and got the victory in a 9-7 win over the Great Falls Voyagers. Shunick allowed one run in five innings and struck out eight.

In his next start, Shunick got a no-decision in the Mustangs' 5-4 win over the Helena Brewers. He went a season-high six innings and allowed one run on one hit.

Shunick is the second Mustang to be honored by the Pioneer League. Neftali Soto was the player of the week for June 16-22. He has since been promoted to Single-A Dayton.

5th rounder should at least project favorably down the line. Let's hope this isn't the first award the kid wins.
