TRANSACTION: San Diego offered Carlos Guevara, a 26-year-old right-hander they selected in Rule 5 draft, back to the Reds. The Reds declined, but they worked out a trade of Guevara to the Padres for cash or a player to be named.

Guevara was 1-0 with a 5.84 ERA in 10 games for San Diego. He was 1-2 with a 2.32 ERA last year for the Reds' Double-A Chattanooga team.

I would have taken him back. Hey maybe the reds can get an A-Ball pitcher with no history of success as the PTBNL and put him on the 40 man roster. Then they could waive someone who might be able to provide depth in case of an emergency, or at the worst be a quality contributor in the upper minors.
