The agenda for Monday evenings special council meeting in Goodyear contains the following item...

Discussion/consultation with City Attorney to receive an update, to consider its position, and to provide instruction/direction to City Attorney regarding City's position in connection with existing contracts and contractual negotiations related to the development of the City's Major League Spring Training Complex. (A.R.S. § 38-431.03(A)(3)(4).

Is that just a statement to cover all contingencies or is there more negotiating to be done?

If the negotiations were a done deal....wouldn't it say progress report on...?

Thanks Strider for the info, if memory serves me, you have been on top of this before.

As a Reds fan, who can make a cheap spring vacation to Fla. and catch my beloved Reds, (Stay with big bro'), I hold out probably stupid hope that somehow they stay in Fla. for ST. Especially now that Sarasota has made such an incredible offer to the Red Sox, trying to lure them away from Ft. Myers. Now the Reds in Ft. Myers would be a dream come true. I could be at City of the Palms Park in minutes from where I stay!

Hey I can fantasize can't I?

It looks like the deal is done pending final approval from the City of Goodyear.

When I saw the agenda for the work session I thought there seemed to be some differences still being negotiated leaving open a window...

But now that the agenda for the official session later Monday evening is posted I see that they are ready to sign off on the Use agreement with the Reds.

Glad its at least done. I am now looking forward to making plans for ST 09, my last Reds spring training-kind of makes me sad, as it was almost tradition for my dad and I to go down there for ST, I even went by myself 3 years for a week and camped out following the Reds around FL. The Sarasota complex was also built on the land (the minor league field) where my great grandmother lived before she died, so it had sentimental value to me too. I understand the reasoning behind the move (sort of), but I am very dissapointed by it personally.

What's really interesting is how Sarasota is pulling out all the stops to get the Red Sox.

The differences between the deal they offered the Reds and the one they have offered to the Red Sox really makes me feel like the proverbial red headed step child.

The latest is they are talking about tearing down Robarts Arena to build the Red Sox a new training facility and stadium even though their high schools and other area events will not have an arena to hold their events. Desperation has set in...amazing considering they never really seemed interested in the Reds until it appeared they would lose them...
