Why weren't you sold on him last year? His approach at the plate? And you just mean offensively, right? You were sold on him defensively last year as well? I saw on another thread that you like him very much defensively (at least this year, but I presume that means last year as well).

Yeah, I wondered about that, but A.) no one else was hit by any pitchers, so I have no idea what he'd be retaliating about, and B.) the bases were already loaded.

I guess it was just a matter of recognizing that Vazquez's control was lost, and they wanted to stop the bleeding early.

For the second night in a row a Stars pitcher beans a hitter directly after a HR. Yesterday it was Eymann after a Valaika bomb tonight it was Gutierrez after he hit a Grand Slam the inning prior. (He did not pimp it).

So the next inning LeCure gets retribution and all hell breaks loose. Stars batter walked out toward the mound with bat in hand and Tatum Pushed him from behind. It lasted about what seemed like 5 minutes. Tons of ejections and fines to follow.Email about the fight. Sounds like it was a good one.

OK, so I guess its time for some first hand observations from Dayton, although it sounds like I should have been in Chattanooga. My seats were lawn seats in RF but I didn't even go there once. I stood leaning on the wall in left the whole time, about a foot from the LF foul pole near the Dragons bullpen, perfect angle behind pitchers warming up in the pen.

First off, Mez is NOT "puffy". He actually looks small to average for a catcher. He wears very baggy pants for all his crouching so it makes him look much bigger. He had a shot down the LF line that I thought might take my head off for a second. He also had a rocket up the middle that the pitcher knocked down with his glove but took his glove off too. After his double he was thrown out at home on a single but he had to hold halfway between second and third because the RFer dove for it and it was in his glove but popped out. Plus the RFer had a cannon. Defensively, Mez had one PB where he was trying to frame on the corner but missed the ball. He had 4 SB off him, 3 I would say were off the pitcher and one was at 3B where I thought he had him, perfect throw. He has a cannon for a right arm, and all the throws were on the money but 2 to second were one hops and one was high, but all were right on the bag. Lefty Horst had a good PO but they picked it up easily I think because they were going on his first movement and gave Mez no chance. Ok, I think thats it for Mez.

Cozart impressed the hell out of me. Double in the first where, from my view point Doug, he took second on the throw to the cutoff man, it never made it to third. His HR was a bomb, below the scoreboard that Mez hit. He was also robbed on a diving play by the opposing SS. But then he looked dumb in his last AB on two breaking balls. Defensively he had one ball hit to him all night and it was in the hole and he made a mice reaching backhand but the ball popped out. Probably would have been an IF single anyways.

Soto was so so. I saw his cannon in warm ups, but he only had one ball hit to him and he "olayed" it on the big hop and was charged with an error. I know he flew out twice but I believe his second was a rocket but right at the CF IIRC. His HR was exactly where Cozart's was. Man, the kid is skinny. He also walked.

Horst was bad, lots of baserunners. Jolbert Cabrera made a very very nice catch at second. Logan Parker made a good throw home to nail a runner at home where Mez did a FANTASTIC job of blocking the plate and the guy had to try to slide around him but Mez got him. The delay sucked because Stewart was up and getting ready to start loosening. He looked kind of short to me, but not Cueto short. Oh yeah, Justin Reed can go get it. For the Snappers, that Ben Revere is going to be good. Spent the whole season in Beloit and is STILL batting .400. Partch got it up to 91 but Horst, Jeffords, and Rhoden were all around 88 to 89 and not any higher and didn't look anything special. I think thats about it, good game but sad I didn't get to see Waring or Stewart.

Nice to see Stovall continue his hot start. Does any one know where to go for up-to-date Rookie Ball lines?

Thanks for posting! I've gotta make it to a game. I had no idea that Dayton drew that well. I think that is pretty impressive. Is it like that for a lot of minor league games? I've been to Columbus Clippers games but not for a long time and they never drew any fans.

Dayton has sold out every game in its history and there is a waiting list for season tickets. They are annually in the top 10 in all of minor league baseball in attendance, the only team below AA to be there nearly every year.

Doug does my analysis pretty much agree with what you watched on TV?

Mesoraco definitely doesn't look out of shape on the video. I wonder what the scout saw.

Dayton is playing really well as of late...I would love to see Bucholz come up and man the second base position...

Then things would be really fun to watch...

BTW I know I have mentioned it, but I am really turning the corner on Cozart...Would love to see him start to really tear up the league and get a couple week promotion to Sarasota...

It's great to hear the guys are sticking up for each other in Chatt. A bunch of them have been playing together since Billings. I bet the Reds FO loved seeing that.

Thanks for the video posts, great to see some highlights and not just have to read the box scores.

BTW, you do get some perks being on the WL - the team will send out special offers for seats from time to time.

I'm pretty lucky... I go by myself and can usually find an actual "seat" (as opposed to the lawn) for most of the games. Unfortunately, the seats are usually in the middle of the row. :( BUT, I went thru Ticketmaster for last night's game and got  first row seat in Section 204 (that's the upper deck) nearly behind HP.

Great videos, Doug!

BTW, I think Mesoraco looks as 11Larkin11 described - not large but not small as well.
