Curious as to why they are playing him there insted of Waring...I am assuming that Waring is in the lineup and that is the reason for him playing first...

Waring is in the lineup as the DH for both games. They probably just want to start getting Soto some experience at first.

Between games they played an interview with Mesoraco where he confirmed that his footwork has been bad and its something that they are working on correcting with his throws. Its what I have been saying since I first saw him play this year on why guys can steal so easily on him (not counting the pitchers not holding guys on at all for the most part). There is also another thing they are working on with him as he gets to his feet to make the throws.

I had a good conversation with a scout who has gotten a long look this season at Mesoraco. His take:

Arm Strength: Below average

Potential Defensive Rating: 45 (20-80 scale), meaning a little below average.

It would be a rush probably, but I love the idea of resigning Dunn and using a platoon of Stubbs/Dorn in 2009.

Outfield configuration of Dunn/Stubbs/Bruce against lefties and Dunn/Bruce/Dorn against righties.

I just wish they were ready....

Also good to see Soto with a SB, if theyre gonna move him around the infield I'd like to see him play some OF as well. Anyone else feel like I do about Cozart, I think he's back on the radar as far as a legit prospect, the few games Ive seen of the Dragons he's hit nothing but shots all over and 11 HRs is legit power in 5th3rd.

I'll tell you this much: Next year if the Reds need a young SS to come up and fill in, it won't be Paul Janish. Chris Valaika will already be with the team IMO and if the Reds need someone to come up from minors, it will be Zach Cozart, not Janish.
