Worthless facts...

The Padres have a career 10-6 record in Great American Ball Park entering tonight's game. The REDS have only won a series once (2003 season) against the Pads at home since the new park opened for the 2003 season. The Pads have won every series since 2004 by 2 games to 1.

Dusty wanted Bray in there against Giles and Gonzalez, the two big lefty bats. He probably learned his lesson in May and doesn't want to destroy his staff in a long game. So I think we see Maj and Coffey for the rest of this game.

He has a game tomorrow afternoon, he can't use every reliever for two innings tonight.

I'm not questioning who pitched when, although I could, but rather why Dunn wasn't simply left in the game and let Patterson PH in the 10th. This serves the sames purpose plus keeps Dunn's bat in the lineup if it gets that far. Oh, and Patterson is 0-13 vs the Pads this year.

80% strand rate or better.

Seriously. I've been concerned about that.

But then again, he's only 21 and still learning. A lot of us need to be reminded of that every now and then.

Dusty seems to want a faster outfield in these types of games. I'm not saying he's right, but he obviously wants the true centerfielder out there.

The question I have is why Baker usually switches Dunn out rather than Griffey. Tonight it may make sense since Dunn made the final out of the inning. But you would think he should replace Griffey equally as often, in these defensive moves.

Good win.

No game is meaningless if you charge admission.

Cueto was throwing freely, Dusty had a short bullpen, it was fine.

Correct. No long terrible innings outside of the third. No reason not to let him finish the 6th.

SD offense is terrible; exploit that fact.

Just amazing how this team could be about 5 back right now.

They just keep hanging around....but they really need to turn it on for awhile...and get Harang/ Burton/ Hairston healthy and Cordero fixed. Oh, and get rid of Bako and Patterson. ;)

A perfect laundry list. Get to work on that tonight, Walt. Isn't bako the personal catcher of both Cueto and Voloquez. I can't remember a game that either of them started that Bako wasn't also starting. Get them comfortable with someone else and then you can ditch Bako.

I don't think they've been given a chance to 'get comfortable' with Ross yet.

Good win by the Reds. It certainly appeared that the hit-and-run was on. That's a big reason why the Reds won the game. Kudos to the coaches for calling it at the right time. And especially to Keppinger for hitting the double.

Well, if you're referring to the last play of the game, Bruce was running because it was a full count, and Keppinger happened to get a changeup right down the middle (that he, of course, smoked into left). In fact, I'm not so sure that any true hit-and-runs were successfully executed by the Reds tonight.

Since there was only 1 out, the Bruce play was a true hit and run. The only time it's not really a true hit in run is when there is a full count with 2 outs. In that instance, running is a win-win situation.

I agree...no need at all to take away from the fact that it was a great call from the dugout and great execution by Keppinger.

Yeah, I suppose you're right. Although when I think of a true hit and run, I think more 2-0 count, 1 out, and the runner goes while the batter tries to put the bat on the ball no matter what. Not when everyone and their brother knows the runner's taking off, and the batter can always just take the free pass.

I see where you are coming from, but again...Bruce running was not a given. The risk was there of a strike em out throw em out, albeit low with Kepp up. I too, though, do not view the 2-out, full count, runners in motion as a hit and run.
