Joe Nuxhall pitched a complete-game four-hitter in a losing effort for the Reds. The only hits for the Cards were a one-out single by Curt Flood in the third inning, a leadoff single by Vinegar Bend Mizell in the sixth, a leadoff single by Wally Moon in the eighth, and a one-out single by Don Blasingame in the eighth.
