I'd like to see them instill an MLB "Player of the Year" and "Pitcher of the Year". Kind of like a king of the hill type award, which doesn't factor in league, valuableness, etc. Just who did the best.

I was suprised to see Lincecum is even money for the award at sportsbook.com. They list Webb at -500 (i.e. he is the overwhelming favorite). I'd hand the award to Tim myself.

On another hand, if anyone is interested in paying off their mortgage the Cards are at 50000-1 to win the division. As Kevin from the Office says, if you ever get 10000-1 odds, you take it...although I'm still waiting on Mellencamp's Oscar. :D

I think it should be interesting to see the amount of votes CC ends up getting. He's been beyond outstanding as a Brewer, but he probably hasn't pitched enough games in the NL to get any serious consideration.

I think the award should definitely be Lincecum's though.

It's too early to call, as there's a month to go.

If CC should happen to go 14-0 this season with an ERA of about 1.40, it would be hard to deny him the CYA, unless LIncecum or Webb finish just as strong. But it's unlikley CC can go 5-0 to finish the season, as wins are too team dependent.

That is an interesting scenario. My first inclination is that he'd definitely be winning the rookie of the year award. As for the Cy Young, Stark's right that it's based on historical peformance as well as current performance. If he was a rookie, I doubt he'd get much consideration for the award when you stack his NL only numbers against Webb and Lincecum, only because of the shortened sample. Just my thinking though.

I'm a little different on the MVP though. I think even though he came to the Brewers in July, he's definitely been the most valuable player to his team this season. I know there are strong arguments to be made for other (every day) players, but where would the Brewers be without CC?

For example, if CC gets shelled, do you think his team has more or less of a chance to win than if Pujols goes 0-4?

On the other hand, if CC throws a complete game gem, does his team have more or less of a chance to win than if Pujols goes 3-4 with a home run?

Yea but CC has an impact on 1 out of 5 games. He has a huge impact on 1 game. CC could win every start but at the same time his could theoretically win only the game CC starts. If CC makes 30-35 starts over a years time there are still ~130 games that he has very little to no impact over.

If it were the Most Sensational Pitcher to Chat About Right Now award or the Most Dazzling Streak of the Year award, then yeah, give it to him. You can oogle and drool over CC's accomplishments every day of the week, show highlights on days he doesn't pitch, but reality is this season he hasn't played in a full half season + another half of a season's off days worth of his team's games.

Brandon Webb's chances at winning the Cy Young are slowly slipping away. He allowed seven runs in 5.2 innings today and has allowed six or more runs in three straight starts. The Cy Young should be Tim Lincecum's to lose IMO.

For years the Cy Young Award was just that. It was awarded to the best Major League Pitcher---it covered both leagues and there was not an award for each league.

It seems like every award possible is now becoming a team award as much as individual. This is unfortunate. The Heisman trophy is the worst offender as all the debated include how good or bad the team was. But a lot of the baseball ones are headed that way as well. It seems the only way anyone can win anything is if the team is in the playoff race.

I agree, but unfortunately I would bet good money that they somehow give it to CC Sabathia regardless of the fact that he's only been in the league for half the season.
