Does anyone know the Red's record when Jerry Hairston Jr was in the starting lineup? I imagine it's not bad.

Mutaman, I have wondered the same thing. Here is what I have computed.

With Hairston starting the Reds are 32-23. In those games he is hitting .348

Games in which he has appeared in some capacity, usually a pinch hitter, the Reds are 10-10. In those games he is hitting .125

Thus, overall, the Reds are 42 - 33 in games in which Hairston has appeared.

Here's the rub. There has been much discussion about signing Hairston for at least a year. He has been on the DL three separate times....6/10-6/25; 7/17-8/1; and 8/18-9/8. There were other periods in which he did not play. Since coming to the Reds on 4/21, he has appeared in 75 of the 137 games the Reds have played through 9/22. As several have suggested, it is availability not performance that is in question. Since 2003 he has been on the DL often with a variety of injuries. At 32, it is hard to be optimistic about his durability in the future. His value would seem to be as a platoon outfielder and utility infielder.
