This is going to be ugly. I just received a message from the Bengals:

Dear Frostee Rucker, Marvin White, Rashad Jeanty, and the rest of the defense,
For this game, we are incapable of scoring, as you probably guessed. Our strategy is to have the ball for as little time as possible so we can avoid costly turnovers. We plan on relying on you guys to score all our points. Good luck.

Your pals,
The Bengals offense (A.K.A. The Three-and-Outs)

I won't be doing a play-by-play, but after a couple possessions, I'll say this. The Bengals' defense is looking solid, and the offense looks like, well . . . it looks like they're trying. If they're going to get anywhere, it looks like it's going to be three- and four-yard dump passes at a time.

Glenn Holt just caught a touchdown pass. Fitzpatrick really threaded a needle for that one.
7-0 Bengals.

Reds Fanatic
11-20-2008, 08:43 PM
Great start by Fitzpatrick. They are concentrating on quick short passes with the inexperiened OL and he is 7 for 8 passing so far and ends the drive with the 10 yard TD pass to Holt.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 08:46 PM
The Steelers have a big return and a pass for a first down to put them at the Bengals 42.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 08:49 PM
The Steelers punt out of bounds to the Bengals' 12. Still 7-0.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 08:53 PM
The first quarter is over. The Bengals have 3rd and 3 on their 24 yard line.

Despite not having Levi Jones and Andrew Whitworth, the left side of the line is actually doing a pretty good job so far.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 08:55 PM
The Bengals don't convert, and Larson shanks it out of bounds to the Steelers' 45.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 08:57 PM
The Steelers are charged with holding on first down, and the next play, a 14 yard pass to Heath Miller is completed.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 08:58 PM
Whines Hard just caught a pass that puts the Steelers at the Bengals' 13.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 09:01 PM
On fourth and one, the Steelers convert. 1st and goal.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 09:02 PM
Touchdown Steelers, Worthlessberger to Filler.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 09:04 PM
The Squealers have nine rushes for ten yards, but the 37-yard pass did the Bengals in.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 09:06 PM
Holts returns the kickoff to the 28.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 09:09 PM
Chris Henry catches a 10-yard pass on 2nd & 10.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 09:11 PM
The Bengals are stopped on 3rd & 1. Chris Perry + rush up the middle = Cedric Benson + outside run.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 09:14 PM
Following the punt, the Steelers rush up the middle for six yards to their 15.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 09:16 PM
The Steelers easily convert on third and inches.
Santonio Holmes made Leon Hall look silly and brings the Steelers to the Bengals 49. It's really starting to snow.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 09:18 PM
On 3rd and 9, the Steelers complete another long pass to Holmes.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 09:24 PM
The Steelers don't convert on 3rd and 3 and the field goal is good. There's 1:52 left. 10-7 Steelers.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 09:27 PM
Holt returns the kickoff to the 31. 1:48 left.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 09:29 PM
Fitzpatrick is sacked. It's fourth down, and the Steelers call a timeout with 1:11 left.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 09:31 PM
The Bengals punt, Limas Sweed accidentally touches the ball, and the Bengals recover the muffed punt. Typical rookie mistake. The booth is reviewing it. 1:00 left in the half.

edit: The call stands, and the Bengals are at the Steelers 39 with three timeouts left.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 09:37 PM
On 3rd and five, Houshmandzadeh catches a pass for no gain.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 09:38 PM
The Bengals go for it on fourth down and don't convert. Steelers have the ball with 0:28. They kill the clock. Steelers are winning 10-7 at halftime.

SteelSD
11-20-2008, 09:41 PM
Good game so far. The Bengals have done a nice job protecting the QB. And the mistakes by Pitt (and poor playcalling) have kept the Bengals in the game. One half to go and the Bengals do have an opportunity should they rush the passer against the Steeler's putrid offensive line. The key is to keep the Steelers in 3rd-and-long.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 09:54 PM
The kickoff was field on a hop and returned just past the 20 yard line.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 09:55 PM
Glenn Holt drops a pass and loses a shoe.

camisadelgolf
11-20-2008, 09:56 PM
There was a six yard completion, but the pass on 3rd down was off target, so the punting team comes on the field.

The Squealers are charged with a 15-yard penalty, personal foul for blocking a player out of bounds.

camisadelgolf

The Steelers have 3rd and 4 on their 29.

Worthlessberger scrambles for a first down. It was a good effort on his part.

Steelers go for the long bomb, but Leon Hall had nice coverage.

Roethlisberger connects to Holmes on the slant for a large gain. The blitz opened up a lot of field.

Parker runs it outside for a gain of 15.

camisadelgolf

Incompletion. The Squealers have 4th and 2 just shy of the 20. The field goal kick is good. 13-7 Steelers.

camisadelgolf

The Bungles have 35 yards on their last 23 plays.

It's another three-and-out following the Steelers punt.

The constant among coaching changes, high round draft picks, and losing seasons year after year for 17 of the last 18 is one wealthy, profit-making, content, stubborn, owner who has no reason to change. 8-8 is his winning season (it keeps hope alive from time to time).....11-5 probably scared the exhaust of his Lumina.....there isn't a damn thing we can do about it

I dont wish any ill will to Mike Brown but it is just so sad/funny/pathetic/ludicrous and many other words I cant think of at the moment to think we have to wait for Mike Brown to pass away b4 there is any chance this team will get any better....and even then it would be sold/given to Katie who would likely continue this abomination.

Fitzpatrick is awful.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the number of deflected passes he threw. I remember 4, but there might have been more. He's just not tall enough to be an effective starting QB in the NFL (I don't for a second believe his listing of 6'2"). There's a reason there was only one Doug Flutie.

BTW, the number of injuries and players out for other reasons (*cough* Ocho *cough*) is becoming staggering. Coming into tonight, the Bengals had 7 out of 22 starters out for the game. Then Geathers and Rucker go down. Not only are they bad, but they're unlucky too.

Maybe I'm biased, but I find it amusing Chris Perry was a #1 pick and went into the season this year as the Bengals' starting tailback while Mewelde Moore was a low-dollar FA signing by the Steelers and went into the season as their #3 back.

I know who I'd rather have carrying the mail.

It also shows that you build a football from the inside-to-out. Draft offensive and defensive lineman. Often. Something the Bengals have yet to understand.

Going into next year's draft it's pretty obvious that the Bengals must draft a couple offensive and defensive lineman. Early and often. However, I expect a RB, Cornerback, and WR to be used on the top 3 picks. Idiots.

Andrew Whitworth, Eric Ghiaciuc, Stacey Andrews, Anthony Collins, Levi Jones, Damato Peko, Pat Simms, Jonathan Fanene, Frostee Rucker, Robert Geathers, Pat Shirley.

It's more of a case of missing on a few of these guys.

Yet the Bengals will need to draft a RB next year. They have no depth at that position. However they should be able to wait until round 3 unless someone drops to round 2.

Fitzpatrick is awful.

He is a huge part of the problem. Not only is he too short, he lacks arm strength and as we saw on the goalline pass to Caldwell--inaccurate too. This lack of arm strength allows teams like the Steelers to stack the line because they know everything will be w/i ten yards. This is like it was in the Kitna years. That O-line protected Fitz well yesterday. He should have been able to make more plays downfield. I am against letting him start all the remaining games and I'm even more against even bringing him back next year.

Tony Cloninger
11-23-2008, 10:06 AM
Kitna could actually get the job done more often however.....way more often.

Mike Brown lost his hair back in the late 60's......he looked like he was 50 back then ...so he is not going to look as aged as his father became...or maybe he is just the devil.

Throw in some bad coaching......and probably some players ability to shut it down and not care (who would after a while)....and you have a Bengal roster that is always full of perceived talent.....and a lot of blatant losers.

Jones is the only 1st rounder out of that bunch and Whitworth is the only 2nd rounder. They need to use more top picks on lineman....namely a defensive tackle.

It wouldn't hurt either if they stopped drafting projects. But, that's the Mike Brown way. Cheap.

I agree they need a RB. They should be able to get a decent one in the 3rd round, but I fully expect them to draft one in the 1st or 2nd round, again.
