He would also be an asset for team brawls.

How the heck do you pronounce this guy's name? I've always wondered about that.

gotta love that power potential....dude can flat out whiff though. I know nothing about him defensively but I do know I'll be suicidal if I keep seeing men stranded on 3rd with less than 2 outs.

He's defensively challenged. But he treats lefties like they dumped his sister.

266 .369 .510 .879 career vs LHP.

Wouldn't mind having him on the bench. He's DH'd way more then anything in his career.

I like Gomes a lot. Would love to see him in red.

If I recall he has always ops'd well also. K or walk or Hr sounds like some one we all love who has moved on ;). Right down to the shaky OF performance.

He's Javy Pornstache without the stache.

But has the moxie.

Put him in the "Go get'em board".

+1

That might be the funniest line ever.

I'd love to see the Reds sign Gomes. He could be an asset off the bench late in games.

If the Reds can't get that impact, right-handed bat, then I'd like to see Gomes in a platoon with someone who crushes righties. That would be just as productive as Burrell, cheaper, and less risky.

How about a combo of say Gomes and Thames ?

Danny Dorn?

That's a very good example. I could live with that.

I wouldn't want to put that pressure on Dorn, though. He hasn't even been to AAA yet.

They are both Righties who hit lefties better.

I get that but something just tells me that kid is ready for a platoon. The question isn't the pressure or will he produce in that role. I think the question is, wouldn't you rather him get some more PA's vs. LHP's to see if he can be a regular instead of a platooner?

lets say the Reds sign Wiggington for LF. then Dorn shows he is ready for the bigs. Wiggington can play 1B-2B-3B-OF. That gives the Reds lots of flexibility. if Dorn plays LF vs RHP then Wiggington could play LF vs LHP and fill in at the other positions vs RHP.

Depth is good. Competition is also good.

Oops. That's what I thought, but I just presumed the opposite because of Topcat's post.

doesn't mean it couldn't work ! Since Gomes hits against lefthanders like they dumped his sister:D, point is Thames would be the guy versus Righthanders.

Thames is pretty much the same guy Gomes is neither hit RH's very well. Personally neither of them get on base very well .302 for Thames, .329 for Gomes which is both lower than Wily Taveras Or Juan Rivera.

Gomes has a pretty good career OBP against LHP, Thames doesn't even have that. Neither one plays acceptable defense. There's a pretty good reason their own teams weren't willing to spend money on them.

You do realize they would be playing half there games in GABP? That alone i would expect to change historical performance on both players. Defense? this the same team that employed Adam Dunn in the outfield. LF is not the area you exactly recruit gold glover's for in the first place. For the price this is the type of guys Walt should be chasing down.

That's fine but if they are gonna do that then Rivera should be the leader of that pack IMO, I'm sure they won't make a whole lot less than Rivera. Right now though they should still be looking at full time starting options and not platoon types.

He's a fine bench player or DH, but I don't want him fielding behind any of our pitchers.
