According to a BSPN report published earlier today, the Cincinnati Reds have announced that they are not in the running for free agent 1B superstar Mark Teixeira. "That kind of coin for Teixeira? That is laughable!" thought Reds GM Walt Jockerty. Teixeira was unavailable for comment.

Happy holidays, all! :)

You don't think reporters have taken to quoting a person's thoughts, not just what he says? It's just the latest trend in sports journalism.

In good news however, Jocketty also stated that the Reds are the leaders to sign both CC Sabathia once his contract expires with the Yankees (proided he does not exercise his opt out clause) and to sign Textiera after the expiration of his to be signed 8 year deal. Jocketty stated "We believe they will both be able to provide veteran leadership and will help with the develop with young players such as Trey Griffey"

You're only worth what someone is willing to pay you, and pay Teixeira someone most certainly will, somewhere to the tune of $20 mil. per year. Agents know that Jocketty isn't going to pony up what ManRam and Teixeira will get. If true, I don't see why an announcement is necessary from the Reds.

I still hold hope that a legitimate LF'er/#4 hitter can be traded for.
