So as FA's are finding the market to be a little tougher sledding than they perhaps anticipated, and with the Reds looking to possibly bridge the gap to the next generation of minor leaguers(Stubbs, Dorn, Frazier, Francisco) I'm thinking offering a one year contract to some good talent might be the way to go.

I would put a one year offer for Burrell and for Sheets, priced somewhere around 10-14 million. You'd of course be overpaying, but it gives the players one more year to establish their market as hopefully the market rebounds next year. I'd probably only sign one of them, but whomever takes the deal first pretty dramatically upgrades the ball club.

I would rather we go after Dunn instead of Burrell. Are any of the remaining free agents better than Dunn? Sheets has had a history of breaking down. I would pass on him.

Abreu would be nice (I'm sure he'll get more than 1 year though).

Dunn's not coming back. I'm not sure he's even relevant to the discussion anymore.

I'd rather have him than any of the names being mentioned as well, but, and I say this as an English teacher, it ain't happening.

I'd take Burrell, although he'd be my third choice among the free agents (after Bradley and Abreu).

Every thread must have at least one Dunn mention or it's not Redszone.

Not a bad idea. Great Depression II or not, somebody's going to find themselves in contention come July and will want a rental superstar to get them over the hump. Pick up someone on the relative cheap and flip 'em.
