Just saw that the Reds signed him to a minor league deal. He has some RH pop and is still only 25 next season. His days as a big time prospect at Tampa Bay are long gone, but he went .280/.328/.496 in the Pacific Coast League (405 PA) last year. He had a cup of coffee in Oakland.
Decent lottery ticket signing, but probably just filler.

I like the signing. He's only 25 years old, and he has a decent ceiling. His struggles of late have mainly come against left-handed pitching, which is interesting because he's a right-handed hitter.
Since 2007:
AB AVG OBP SLG OPS
vs. LH 199 0.191 0.249 0.362 0.611
AB AVG OBP SLG OPS
vs. RH 590 0.281 0.324 0.485 0.809

I like the signing as well. Given that the Reds need a power RH corner outfield bat, a AAA player with some potential is worth throwing into the mix. His power numbers against LHP are decent, even if his BA is low. A Dorn/Bankston platoon in LF could provide 30 HR. The signing provides an expensive way to generate another LF alternative for 2010.
Great name. I picture the name as being a soap opera character. "Dr. Wes Bankston. Damn glad to meet you."

He is off to a hot start in AAA.
4 homers and an OPS of 1.10 in 13 games.
