The guy can hit and he's a terrific fielder. Won a Silver Slugger for the White Sox I believe. Move Edwin to LF before he makes another 23 errors this year. If Crede is healthy, he'd be a great fit for the Reds.

He's injury prone, his defense has declined, and he doesn't make contact or take walks...

Sounds like a Red to me.

Different league, different home park nah he is what he is huh ;), Sign him up and make 2 better positions in 1 day. Fact one is The Red's are not a desired destination and shouldn't be quite frankly based on performance. fact two take anybody that is worth taking a chance on to improve this teams offence:thumbup:

He's averaged 71 games a year the last two seasons.

But other than that....

I tend to think the Reds should stay away from infielders with bad backs. Now that they've avoided Furcal, I would imagine they'd do the same for Crede. But I've been wrong before.

They need a little youth on their team.

How did you reach the conclusions that "the guy can hit"?

I wanted Crede earlier, and he still may be interesting at the right price. But he's OB challenged and has a history of back issues. Risking a deal and foregoing other options to sign Crede seems like a big risk from a health standpoint. Given the OB issues, the reward for a healthy season may not be worth it.

Only as a fallback at this point IMO.

Pass. I see no good reason to go after Crede.

Yeah, everyone's covered pretty much everything except that he's one of those 'Javier Valentin'-type switch hitters. In other words, he be hitting from only one side of the plate.

Career OBP 306

As someone else said, that's the New Reds Standard.

He should fit in nicely.

Low OBP's keep the games short and fan friendly which would make Marty happy too. Sign him up!

Joe Crede is not a switch hitter.

Oops. I'm not sure who I was thinking of then.
