A shameless plug for my daughter Jen....

Jenís Logo and T-shirt design were chosen to be one of five finalists in a contest for Mason Parks Foundation.

Go to www.masonparksfoundation.org and vote for her in both the logo and t-shirt contests. Her logo and t-shirt are the ones with the kids with butterfly wings on a scooter, bike and wheelchair (T-shirt is yellow).

logo - go to http://www.masonparksfoundation.org/logo.html and vote for Entry A.

t-shirt - go to http://www.masonparksfoundation.org/page/page/6748621.htm and vote for Entry V, the yellow t-shirt

If the mods think this is not a good thing, feel free to delete it.

Public helping choose logo for inclusive playground
By Eric Schwartzberg

Staff Writer

Thursday, January 29, 2009

Less than a handful of days remain for the public to vote on which student-designed logo will be used to represent the area's first inclusive play experience.

The Common Ground competition initially saw more than 70 Mason High School art students craft a logo for the new non-traditional playground, which will feature equipment accessible to all, including a swing that accommodates a child in a wheelchair, a slide that can be used by a child with braces, a quiet area for children with autism and Braille for sight-impaired children and adults.

Voting on the final five logo designs remains open through Saturday, Jan. 31, at www.masonparksfoundation.org or in person at the Mason Community Center, 6050 Mason-Montgomery Road, where the logos are showcased on easels in the lobby.

The online vote also allows the public to help choose which logo will adorn a T-shirt and poster showcasing the Run, Walk and Roll 5K event the foundation is staging April 4 in Mason.

The contest is a joint project between the high school and the Mason Parks and Recreation Foundation, which is planning Common Ground for an area near Snider and Reading roads, according to Vicky Ullery, the foundation's vice president.

Members of local media judged the initial entries, narrowing them down to 20.

Mason Arts Council members and city officials whittled those 20 selections down to their five favorites.

"Under the direction of (Mason High) teacher Aaron Roberts and Assistant Principal Nikki Huelsman, the students far exceeded our expectations with their commitment to the project and their creativity," said Rachel Kopfler, the foundation's president.

T-shirts featuring the winning logo will be available at the Feb. 6 boys basketball game, Kopfler said.

I'm sure they count. I guess just wondering if her lead in the online poll is accurate. In other words, could there be hundreds of paper ballots still to be counted and added to the total?

February 2, 2009

Dear Jennifer:

The Board of Directors of the Mason Parks and Recreation Foundation is proud to officially adopt your logo as the symbol for Common Ground, a playground where everyone is equal.

After reviewing the nearly 70 entries, Judge Meredith Raffel, the Executive Director of the Mason Area Arts Council, had this to say about your design:

"This particular entry has the unique and powerful message of saying everything with "saying" anything. It is by far the most functional, adaptable, symbolic logo. I really liked this because it works so well for the logo but also the t-shirt and poster. This image can be used over and over again. It isn't trendy or gimmicky. It will serve the Foundation over time for public identity. I see great marketing potential for this entry... from pins, banners, signs, newspapers, etc. This image will transfer to beautifully to black and white."

Jennifer, you will be publicly recognized February 6 at the Mason boys' basketball game. Please invite your friends and family to attend as you accept an award from the President of the Foundation and the Superintendent of Schools.

Again, we are so very pleased with your design and know your future holds great potential. Congratulations!

Sincerely,
Vickey Ullery, Vice President
Mason Parks & Recreation Foundation
