I'd assume they have another picture of him that helps corrobarate the story. I'm interested to see if the mainstream media picks up on this or helps the Golden Boy out and sweeps it under the rug.

FWIW I could care less if he tokes, but in this day and age it shows a terribly poor lack of judgement for him to do such a thing.

Michael seems to have a flair for the wild side. He is dating an ex stripper, or two.

As for the pounds. The body does get used to consuming 7 Billion calories per day.

Unless Phelps suddenly decided to pluck his eyebrows religiously and then grow a completely different nose, that's not him.

The article states that Phelps agent/management pleaded for the picture not to be released...I'll admit that if I looked at that picture unknowing, I'll never suggest/think it was Phelps...but what person/corporation would knowingly and fraudulently go after Phelps like this in this manner. I'm guessing there is other evidence.

Deadspin is all over this...this is going to have to get some media play now.

I appreciate Phelps tackling this head-on and not going the route of "I didn't inhale" or "It was hookah".

He's the big loser in all of this. He cost himself millions in endorsements and my guess is it might void some of his already signed deals. For a swimmer, it's not like he can go out and still keep making money on the field like other athletes. His window of opportunity to cash in is much shorter and he might have just closed it. Too bad.

Exactly MWM...as I said...big deal that he toked. But face it...he probably was the most beloved person in America (there was really nothing polarizing about him) before this happened (and depending on the media exposure this gets...he still may be) For him to do such a thing is/was beyond foolish.

Non issue to me. He spent the last 2 years training to be the greatest Olympian of all time. He is 22 years old and does have a partying side. His only fault may be the people he hangs with. In a couple of weeks this will all go by the wayside. I wonder how many people remember he had a DUI shortly after the Sydney games?

Yes, because hitting the bong and killing someone are, very clearly, in the same category of offense.

America would be a bit more interesting if millions of people were commiting a just one murder a year. instead, you don't even reach the hundred of thousands for homicide.

A college aged kid smokes pot? Unbelievable! Then again, it may explain the facial expressions and celebrating when Jason Lezak pulled out the 4X100. Dude must have been totally stoned.

Seriously though, I guess I am disappointed that he'd do something that dumb.

Phelps lost his endorsement from Kellogg's.

Kellogg's said Phelp's behavior didn't fit their image.

Funny how a company that markets its sugar-heavy breakfast foods to little children through cartoon characters has an "image" to protect.

Sugar leads to obesity, obesity leads to heart disease and diabetes.

This country is screwed up when Kellogg's and McDonald's are the good guys and Michael Phelps is the villain.

Yeah, but pot leads to...following around the Grateful Dead, endless transferring from one weird college to another, and starting one of the country's most successful ice cream companies.

I'll take a bowl of Ben and Jerry's over a bowl of Sugar Frosted Flakes anytime.

Then General Mills and MWM can grab him, they were peeved that he went to Kelloggs in the first place.

If the Chinese gymnasts did that it would likely result in Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
