Okay, I told you I would make my pick when I woke up. ;)

With the first pick in the 2nd annual RedsZone NFL Mock Draft, the Detroit Lions select Matt Stafford, QB from the University of Georgia.

http://www.sbrforum.com/Pictures/Matt_Stafford200x250.jpg

New MM Detroit GM Martin Mayhew didn't get a chance to ease into his new position as his first major decision will be who to take with the first pick. Detroit could use players just about anywhere on the field, but when you have the first pick and are in need of franchise quarterback there is little room for argument. The Lions have a few studs in Calvin Johnson and Ernie Sims and hope Stafford develops into the kind of quarterback they have been missing since they had Scott Mitchell... ;)

With the second overall pick:

The Saint Louis Rams select

LB Aaron Curry, Wake Forest

St Louis fans grown, "What about the offensive line?" The front office says the offense needs totally rebuilt, but the defense is close, with the addition of this impact linebacker. Orlando Pace, and Alex Barron return for another year, and the draft is not over yet.....

And now, as promised.

Kansas City is going into the draft after making a pretty big splash, dealing their second round pick to the New England Patriots for Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel, shoring up two major question marks. With a potential franchise QB in fold, there is no need to invest in Mark Sanchez, and adding Mike Vrabel would mean that KC would likely pass on an Aaron Curry should he be available.

Offensive and defensive line are tempting, with this draft being the deepest offensive line draft in recent memory. However, this is where the sleeper pick comes into play.

Kansas City coach Todd Haley ran the Arizona offense to perfection on route to a Super Bowl, and did so with a veteran QB and two elite wideouts. He now has a potential star QB and a potential star wideout, but another weapon wouldn't hurt.

Without further adieu, the Kansas City Chiefs select, despite injury concerns:

The Seattle Seahawks select DT B.J. Raji, from Boston College.

Conventional wisdom says Crabtree, but even if Crabtree was on the board, I would have gone the other way. This team needs to beef up its D-line in a big way, and it can start with this pick.

With the 5th overall pick in the 2nd annual Redszone mock draft,

The Cleveland Browns select:

CB Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State

5432

This was a tough call, as the Browns were looking very closely at DE Brian Orakpo and OT Eugene Monroe with this pick, but just felt Jenkins was too big of a playmaker to pass up. The Browns are also not scared off by what some might call a poor 40 time at the combine (on a slow turf). Malcolm Jenkins is a football player, period. His versatility is also appealing as he could play either corner or safety. The Browns envision him as a dominant safety in the Ed Reed mold.

With the 6th pick the Cincinnati Bengals select OL Eugene Monroe, Virginia.

I've been thinking about this pick for awhile now and decided to protect Carson Palmer. I picked Monroe over Jason Smith because Smith has knee concerns and is less polished than Monroe. I want someone who can step in right away to help fix the offensive line.

I would've loved for the Bengals to sign Brown from Baltimore as a Center, but it appears he's going to sign with someone else (I forget who).

In the 2nd round at least one of the 3 of Mack, Unger, or Wood will be available. I would love for the Bengals to go defense with the 2nd pick and get Wood in the 3rd. I just don't see Wood lasting that long though.

Even if they draft a center I'd like for them to get one to start via free agency. Handing the reins to a rookie to run the offensive line would be a recipe for disaster.

Isn't Monroe also supposed to have a injury, one that he had been covering up or something? If not I like Monroe but any injury to a big man scares me off. If it were me I'd have thrown conventional wisdom out the window and drafted Muauluga.

Mario, I like Maualuga, but I think the Bengals are pretty happy with their LB's, so much in fact that they have gone out and re-signed Jeanty, Brandon Johnson, and Blackstock (to go along with Rivers and Jones).

The D finished 12th last year and the J-Crew (Jones, Jeanty, and Johnson) were all pretty solid taking care of things after Rivers went down. And with Rivers back next year, I bet they feel pretty good depth-wise with that group.

If anything, the D-Line may need an upgrade, but with money invested in Peko and Sims (DT) and Geathers and Odom (DE), I wouldn't think this will be a pressing need until late in day one or day two.

I think, right now, all signs are pointing to an OT in round one (Levi Jones is toast). Of course, you never know with the Bengals. If they don't get Benson or Ward in FA, they may just surprise us all and draft a RB.

As much as I hate to admit I see this happening. My thoughts on it however are #1 I think Rey is one of the top 5 players in this draft and you just don't pass on guys who you feel that way about. #2 we have a few good LB's but virtually no depth behind Jones at MLB and with his age (31) it's time to fill that in for the future. Not only that but with 2 solid MLB's in the short term we could play some 3-4 packages. But to be honest I really don't see any way that the Bengals can get away from signing an OT unless Raji is ava.

With the 7th pick of the NFL Draft the Oakland Raiders select OT Jason Smith from Baylor. Offensive Line and D-Line are the two biggest problems with the Raiders right now and it came down to Jason Smith or Brian Orakpo from Texas. Considering the past two years picks have been on a QB and a RB we need someone to block and keep them from getting killed.

I might be throwing the first curveball of the draft. The Jags have lots of needs and I was strongly considering the Baylor and Virginia guards. But with them off the table, the Jags take a gamble and try to find their future franchise QB.

The Jags select Mark Sanchez, QB, USC.

The Jags just signed David Garrard to a long term deal after only 1 productive season, and with a year left on his contract. He then became a very average QB. That was under the Shaq Harris/Jack Del Rio personnel regime.

But personnel decisions now rest with Gene Smith, and he will seize the opportunity to grab a franchise QB, especially one with major charisma for a franchise that needs a star.

With the ninth pick in the draft, Green Bay selects DE-LB Everette Brown of Florida State. The Pack is switching to a 3-4 defense, and we believe Brown can be their James Harrison. Orakpo was tempting, but Brown had an excellent combine and is considered the best pure pass rusher in the draft by many.

Hi, I'm Scot McCloughan, and my team, the San Francisco 49ers, sucks. Unfortunately, both big-name quarterbacks, Matt Stafford and Mark Sanchez, are gone, so we're going to hold off on having hope for the future until next year's draft, when we use the overall #1 pick to grab a QB, preferably one with larger hands not made of butter.

Malcolm Jenkins was another guy we wanted, and we even considered Vontae Davis, another cornerback, but ultimately, we decided that we won't really need to defend the pass so much since we'll be losing all the time. With that said, we decided to head in the direction of linebacker.

We already have a great core on defense, including Justin Smith, Ahmad Brooks, and Takeo Spikes (and to a lesser degree, Patrick Willis), so we were hesitant to settle on a linebacker, but the chance to have both Manny Lawson and another excellent speed rusher on the outside was too much to pass up.

With that, I would like to announce our pick for the 2009 NFL Draft, Brian Orakpo, outside linebacker, University of Texas.

http://grfx.cstv.com/schools/tex/graphics/fb-wallpaper/08_wp_orakpo_camp_1280.jpg

Needless to say, Orakpo is off the chain. He is a native-born Texan, so we thought San Francisco would be the perfect place for him, giving him a chance to spread liberal views throughout our conservative city. He also has some experience at tight end, which could come in handy once Vernon Davis inevitably gets himself suspended for doing something really stupid. I really hate that guy. Anyway, Orakpo looks good in mud colors, which fits in perfectly with our 49ers theme. I believe the biggest advantage to picking Orakpo is that even if he turns out to be a bust, which is extremely possible, it will be at a position that won't cripple us too much.

We are very proud to bring Orakpo into camp and get his "professional" career stared. This pick will break or break the future of our team, and I am very excited to get this season over with. Buffalo Bills, you are now on the clock!

The Buffalo Bills were crushed by that last pick as they had really wanted either Brown or Orakpo to team with their beast Aaron Schoebel. Luckily for the Bills there is still that special rusher on the board that can provide them with some speed off the end.

So with the 11th pick in the 2009 Redszone NFL Draft the Buffalo Bills select:

Aaron Maybin DE Penn State

Aaron was a huge part of Penn State's Defense last year and we believe he will continue to develop and grow under the guidance of Dick Jaroun.

Here are Aaron's combine numbers and scouting report:

NFL Combine Results
40-Yard Dash 4.89
Vertical jump 38.0
Broad jump 10'4
20-yard shuttle 4.38

2009 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

person
Aaron Maybin, DE, Penn State
Aaron Maybin has wasted no time in becoming one of the most productive pass rushers in college football. Maybin was highly recruited out of high school in Maryland, and came to Penn State in 2006. After redshirting his first year on campus, Maybin played in every game of his redshirt freshman year. He recorded 12 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, and broke up a pass in coverage, in 13 games last season. Maybin came out of high school weighing only 220 pounds, but has already added 26 pounds of muscle. He has the frame to add more bulk without losing any speed, which is something NFL scouts will be looking at. Maybin has outstanding speed for an end, and is much stronger than his size would suggest. He does his best work coming off the edge and simply running by offensive tackles. Maybin isn't only a speed rusher though. He has excellent technique, and does a good job of using his hands to keep blockers from cutting his feet out from under him. Maybin took full advantage of his starting role this season, having tallied 49 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and even breaking up 3 passes in coverage. Maybin will be watched closely by NFL GMs because he has the potential to develop into a dominant and disruptive force. Maybin will likely be the first defensive end taken this spring, but NFL teams will likely have to wait for him to develop. He can help a team as a third down pass rush specialist in the beginning, but if he reaches his potential he could be a future NFL sacks leader.

The Denver Bronco's are on the clock.

Here is the thinking for the Redskins at the 13th pick....

Jason Campbell is desperate for a little help. The Redskins are in dire need of more playmakers at the WR position, but considering we spent THREE second round picks on pass-catchers last year, we must give them a chance to develop. If one of those three guys can turn into a reliable target, then we should be OK there with Santana Moss still being very effective at this stage in his career. Where Campbell needs the most help is staying upright. The Redskins offensive line was good to dominant through the first 6 games or so last season, but their age began to show as the season progressed and the line quickly became a major concern (especially on the right side).

The Redskins are set in the secondary and while an extra OLB would be nice, there isn't anyone available that totally blows our socks off. Even though the Redskins defense was quite good last year, the DL struggled-- especially in terms of generating a pass rush. We hope we've filled a major void with the signing of Albert Haynesworth-- his addition makes DT much less of a need.

But we are still in great need of a pure pass-rusher.

Our decision comes down to three people:

OT Michael Oher of Ole Miss
OT Andre Smith of Alabama
DE Larry English of Northern Illinois

Smith intrigues us the most, but his character and conditioning issues are a red flag. We don't feel we can take a risk at this point, so we remove him from our board. We love the idea of English, but he is under-sized and might fit a 3-4 scheme a bit better.

That leaves us with the safe choice, but it's a choice everyone in the room can feel good about.

With the 13th pick, the Washington Redskins select....Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi

Do you think the Redskins would consider Smith because Chris Samuels, an Alabama alum, could mentor him?

The New Orleans Saints are happy to announce that with the 14th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft we select Brian Cushing - OLB from Southern California.

http://vmedia.rivals.com/IMAGES/PROSPECT/PHOTO/BRIANCUSHING7_301200.JPG

After we resigned Jonathon Vilma, signed Jabari Greer, and will get Tracy Porter and Mike MacKenzie back from injury we feel our most pressing need is to get a athletic OLB who can help against both the run and pass.

With the 16th pick in the 2009 NFL Player Draft, The San Diego Chargers select:

Rey Maualuga, MLB, USC
6-1, 249, 4.82

http://www.draftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/ilb/Rey-Maualuga.php

Rey was effective in college because he was surrounded by play makers who could make up for his over aggressive style. He now comes to a defense where he is once again surrounded by play makers such as, Shawne Merriman, Shaun Phillips, Antonio Cromartie, and Jamal Williams. He will bring a physicality to the middle of our 3-4 defense that was lacking with Steven Cooper and Tim Dobbens at middle linebacker.

Other candidates were:
Jeremy Maclin
Tyson Jackson
Andre Smith
Knowshon Moreno

With the Jets having few obvious holes, the Jets are in the position to take a gamble, therefore selecting Pat White, QB, West Virginia.

He proved to be one of the elite athletes in this draft class during the combine. With the Wildcat being a relevant option today, White could turn into a big time playmaker, especially when you consider he has a chance to be a good receiver too.

Well, the Chicago Bears have a lot of question marks and a lot of holes to fill. There really is not a need to draft a quarterback because the studs have already been taken and there is a need to improve the other roster spots.

The biggest whole is the wide receiver position. So with the 18th pick in the draft the Chicago Bears select Darius Heyward-Bey from the university of Maryland. Maclin also would have been a solid pick, but Heyward-Bey has a size advantage and is at least as fast as maclin if not faster. Maclin's best ability is returning punts and kicks, but the bears are pretty loaded there with Devin Hester and the emmergence of Danieal Manning.

So the Bears draft Heyward-Bey, from what I know, a guy with a good attitude and strong work ethic to boost their receiver corps.

I'm not a huge Maclin fan, but I will say this. He's probably the fastest player I've seen outside of Primetime. My wife's family is from Mizzou so I've seen Maclin play in person several times. I've never seen Heyward-Bey play, but I'd be shocked if he could run with Maclin, despite any 40 times at the combine. Maclin absolutely blazes by people on the field. I think what makes Maclin good is he's very quick as well. He gets to top speed in a split second. Defenders have no chance if he has any space to run.

At this point in the round, his combination of talent and potential was just too great to ignore. We especially liked Knowshon's ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, which will allow us to have him and Brian (Westbrook) on the field at the same time. We will be able to show some different looks on offense, and hopefully save Brian from some wear and tear by having him line up in the slot periodically. We also appreciate Knowshon's work ethic, and feel that one day he can be one of the leaders on the offensive side of the ball."

We as an organization feel that we needed to upgrade the LB core and feel Mr. Matthews brings great athleticism, size, and speed to the team. He has great family roots and comes from a good college program.

We felt he was the best player still on the board that filled one of our needs. We thought about getting a WR to go along with Ted Ginn, but all the receivers we felt worthy of being picked here are off the board. As well, CB was a thought at this pick but again no one at the DB position was available that would of made us not pick Clay.

The New York Football Giants, robbed of a second consecutive Super Bowl win only by Plaxico Burress' stupidity, are faced with some interesting options. The two most highly rated players still left on the PBPA List (Puffy's Best Player Available List) are Tyson Jackson, DE from LSU and Peria Jerry, DT from Ole Miss. However, the New York Football Giants have spent the beginnings of the free agent season reinforcing our DL. First Rocky Bernard and then Chris Canty. Couple that with regaining Osi Umenyoura and that leaves us with 9 quality defensive linemen.

Our biggest need, LB, is probably not an option here because the rules of this bleeping mock are no @%#$!%#$ trades, thus we were not able to trade ahead of the Mighty Dolphins to take Clay Matthews, who we really like. Thus we are left with only Clint Sintim as a first/early second round talent, and he is more suited to a 3-4 defense in this humble talent evaluator's opinion.

Next up is probably WR, mostly because that idiot Plaxico Burress shot himself in the leg whilst holding a drink and he happened to do it in the one city in the country run by the mighty midget Bloomberg who needs to compensate for his lack of height by interfering with my football team. Plax is probably headed to jail because Bloomberg won't allow a plea. Don't drop the soap Plax. For heaven's sake, please don't drop the soap. So receiver is a potential need, but late first rounders are a supreme crapshoot and while I like a couple of receivers, I'm probably better off waiting.

That brings us to the OLine. The New York Football Giants, robbed of a SB only by Plax and the premature ejaculation of his gun, have one of the two or three best lines in football. But adding depth is never a bad thing (an ex-girlfriend told me that) and both Tackle spots can be either upgraded (Diehl) or is getting up in age (McKenzie). Also, Shaun "I am 100% Irish and St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner - Erin Go Bragh" O'Hara is 32 and probably has only a couple more years at a high level.

The best linemen this humble talent evaluator has left on his board, thus, shall be the pick.

With the 29th selection of the first round of the 2009 Redszone Mock Draft (because no trades were allowed in this bleeping draft thereby eliminating any of the 3 USC linebackers) is Eben Britton, T, Arizona.

Interesting mock -- speaking as a Bucs fan, I really don't like the Larry English pick. I saw him play in college, I don't think there's a lot of untapped potential there. If they team were to be locked-in on the LB position, I'd rather see about trading down a few picks and grab Clay Matthews from USC or Barwin from UC.

Because someone who mocks mock draft made a mockery of my mock draft decision process by selecting both tackles with his pick, and someone elses, my previous logic, and the decision to release Orlando Pace, puts me at a disadvantage. None of the remaining "tackles" are worth a selection at this point in the draft. With that said the Rams still must upgrade the offensive line. So with this in mind the St. Louis Rams select

OL Duke Robinson, Oklahoma
http://www.nfldraftdog.com/images/Duke%20Robinson.jpg

He is the best available player and will provide an anchor for the offensive line. Perhaps he can play right tackle down the road.

With the 36th overall pick in the 2nd annual Redszone mock draft,

The Cleveland Browns select:

Tyson Jackson, DE LSU

Jackson fits a need on the D-Line as a pass-rushing DE in a 3-4 scheme. The Browns are very happy that he was still on the board and feel that he and Jenkins will go a long way in establishing a new attitude and identity in a defense which has been severely lacking in recent years.

Browns picks:

1 (#5) - CB Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State
2 (#36) - DE Tyson Jackson, LSU

Seattle (cincrazy) is now on the clock.

Hmmm thought the Jags picked before we did.

Anyways Michael Johnson would be the perfect Al pick, but since he's gone Im going to take a safety that most likely allows Mike Huff to move to the SS role.

The Oakland Raiders select Sean Smith, S/CB, Utah.

Hakeem Nicks was definately on my radar but with the offense we are likely to run, he doesnt really fit at this point. None of the DE/DTs interested me so I went to replace Gibril Wilson.

OT is a huge area of need for the Pack. Mark Teuscher is a FA, and Chad Clifton might be slowing down a bit to play on the left side. So in the second round, Green Bay selects:

OT Gerald Cadogan, Penn State

PROS: A big, athletic, smart left tackle from a major program.

CONS: More of a technician than an mean, knock-you-on-your-butt drive blocker.

Hopefully he'll be able to start on the left side and move Clifton to the right.

Interesting draft so far. Redhook if the Bengals end up with Monroe and Unger I can't imagine anyone would be disappointed with that, nice start. Although I will say I would have been awfully tempted to go Jason Smith and Eric Wood with those selections.

The pick of the draft I think so far has to be Hoosier Red getting a TE like Pettigrew with the 27th pick, he's an outstanding fit for any team but the way Peyton utilizes his TE's it's all bad for everyone else. Great selection Hoosier!

One thing for some GM's to consider here. Teams moving to a base 3-4 defense have a hard time transitioning to it from a 4-3 because they lack a true NT. There are few of them ava. and even fewer who can likely make an impact soon. Raji and Brace are 2 of them. So for KC, Denver and the like they need to address that position. A couple of others who might need some time to develop are Chris Baker from Hampton and Sammie Lee Hill from Stillman, but look intriguing in the middle rounds. Antonio Dixon from "the U" might garner some late round attention.

Hi, I'm Scot McCloughan, GM of disgraced NFL franchise, the San Francisco 49ers. Unfortunately, this draft lasts multiple rounds, so I am forced to further our embarrassing decline from a respectably mediocre organization to a downright despicable "NFL franchise."

It has been said that the best strategy for the draft is to go "BPA", in which case we would go for Virginia's Clint Sintim, but we already selected a more extreme version of Sintim in Brian Orakpo, who is no doubt disappointed that he became a 49er.

Therefore, we're going in a different direction. Walt Harris was a great cornerback in the day, but he isn't getting any younger, and if he is, he needs to stop hanging out with Barry Bonds. With our 2nd pick of the draft, we are cautiously optimistic in our selection of Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest, who will probably develop into an overly-aggressive road cone, fitting in with the team's theme of 'bad.'

http://www.packerchatters.com/userfiles/image/2009Draft_AlphonsoSmith.jpg

Welcome to San Francisco, Alphonso. We believe that shortly after signing your first pro contract, you will want to jump off a bridge. Fortunately, we are home to one of the most beautiful, historic bridges in the world so you can send yourself off in style. If that's the path you choose, please bring our troubled star tight end, Vernon Davis, with you--it would save us millions of dollars and spare us from even more headaches.

I was tempted as well with Smith and Wood. I honestly don't know who is better. And the Bengals might not as well. I picked Monroe because he is a little more polished than Smith is. And I picked Unger because he is intelligent and can possibly play more positions other than Center.

Either way, I'd be happy if the Bengals got 2 of those 4.

I could also see the Bengals waiting to the 3rd round for a Center. Luigs, from Arkansas, should be there still.

We'll see what happens. I just hope the Bengals don't screw it up too bad.

Yeah, I was hoping the Bengals would take Wood in round 2, and Unger would fall to Green Bay, because I think he could play LT- he started there for two years in the Pac-10.

Pettigrew is a good value pick for the Colts, but with their gaping holes at LB, DT, and WR I'm not sure if they can afford the luxury of taking him.

We were torn between Brian and Kenny Britt out of Rutgers but feel Robiskie will be ready to help us immediately. As everyone knows Brian will be reunited with his former teammate Ted Ginn along with his father.

At 6'3" and 200 lbs he will be a great over the middle receiver and will be able to stretch the field when needed.

The New York Football Giants, the best team in the NFC East, still have all these draft picks cause no one is allowing me to wheel and deal (in this humble draft evaluator's opinion it has to be because of my genius and the potential to rip people off) so we are once again forced to watch people take my players whilst I idly sit by (I'm looking at you JaxRed - Hakeem Nicks wants to be a Giant!!).

However, the New York Football Giants, robbed of a Super Bowl only because Plaxico Burress shot himself in the leg in the Mighty Midget's City, are pleased to welcome a local product to the Family (and by Family I mean the Mara Family, except for Kate Mara, cause she is mine).

With the 14th pick in the 2nd round, the Houston Texans select....

Jonathon Luigs C - Arkansas. He has good size and he's the fastest center in the draft with good feet. He blocked for McFadden, Jones, and Hillis for three years. The guy knows how to run block. As far as pass blocking, he has the tools and the size at about 6'3 310 to become a solid pass protector. The guy could start from the beginning and fills the next biggest hole on our team, at center. Don't get me wrong, i love Myers, the guy works his tail off, he's just too undersized.

With their second round pick, the bears are going to go offense again and select Phillip Loadholt, OT, from Oklahoma. At 6'8'' 330, Loadholt could prove to be a very good pickup for the Bears. He will most likely play RT, as they have Chris Williams for the left side, but the sudden retirement of John Tait forced the Bears hand with this pick. Loadholt is not all that athletic or fast but he is a very strong blocker and should be an excellent run blocker which fits into the bears run heavy offensive scheme.

Say, Thanks:thumbup: I was hoping to get delmas because a talent like his is hard to ignore, but I'm fine with loadholt. Hopefully he and Williams will turn out to be a great 1-2 punch on the line for years to come (or at least in this fictional world that is the Redszone Mock draft:D)

With the 15th pick of the 2nd round, the Denver Broncos select ...

http://www.nfldraftdog.com/images/Connor%20Barwin.jpg

Connor Barwin OLB - Cincinnati

The Broncos need to upgrade their defense and Barwin provides a player with a lot of upside who could see time as a OLB, DE and TE.

Hard to argue with Barwin he's the type of guy that could be around for awhile in the NFL and be very productive, too me he's very Vrabel-esque. I think I would have leaned towards Ron Brace with that selection myself though.

With the 50th overall pick in the 2nd annual Redszone mock draft,

The Cleveland Browns select:

Clint Sintim, LB Virginia

The Browns realize they could have landed a solid RB here, but feel the D is in desperate need of help and Sintim represents not only the best defensive player available, but a perfect fit for a 3-4 scheme, as a pass-rushing hybrid LB/DE. He also provides a great compliment to fellow 2nd round pick, Jackson.

Browns picks:

1 (#5) - CB Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State
2 (#36) - DE Tyson Jackson, LSU
2 (#50) - LB Clint Sintim, LB Virginia

Dallas (NJReds) is now on the clock.

With the 51st pick, and their first pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select:

Jarius Byrd, CB, Oregon
5-11, 210

The Cowboys take the junior out of Oregon. Speedy CB that will help on punt/ko returns as well. Father was an NFL player. He will add depth to the secondary and will help out in nickle packages right away. 17 INTs in 3 seasons at Oregon.

Nice draft so far BRL. I especially like Jackson as a very good 3-4 DE, he's ideal for that spot in the NFL. The only thing is I might have went RB already but there are still some solid ones out there.

Not really. Maclin is overrated IMO. I like Delmas, but Darry Beckwith? Really? Quick, name the last All Pro LSU defensive player? For defenses that have been as good as LSU's in the past 6-7 years, they sure haven't produced much talent in the NFL.

Laron Landry is a decent safety. After that, who? Marcus Spears? Seriously?

Wow, I didn't realize this got to me so fast! I was like ten people away the last time I checked here, LOL

Anyway, Carolina did not have a pick in the first round so they have to be smart about who they pick here since it's their first pick of this year's draft. That being said, the Carolina Panthers have selected Fili Moala (http://usctrojans.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/moala_fili01.html), DT out of USC, with the hopes that he can strengthen the interior of their defensive line. He should be able to help the team right away and his size should be an asset to Carolina's defense.

Have you seen him in person? IMO, he's pretty damn good and not overrated at all. He'll be the quickest guy on every football feet he steps foot on. It's ridiculous how much quicker he is than everyone else.

He's a very good weapon on offense, similar to Wes Welker actually, but what makes him special is his ability in special teams. He's not as good as Deven Hester, but he is a difference maker. He will return some punts and kickoffs for td's. I don't want the Bengals to draft him with their first pick, but I'd love to have Maclin on the team.

The New York Football Giants, the best team in the NFL not in this last Super Bowl (thanks Plax) loves us some defense. We fortified the front seven, have good corners and have a rising star in last years 1st round pick, one Mr. Kenny Phillips, safety. We can go two ways here, LB or S. There are two safeties we really like. Patrick Chung and William Moore. Phillips is more of a strong safety, but we believe he can play either if need be. And since we really like William Moore.....

The NY Giants select William Moore, S, Missouri.

The Kansas City Chiefs pulled a shocker by selecting Michael Crabtree with their first round pick, in the process giving them an offensive playmaker opposite Dwayne Bowe.

However, while the offensive line still remains a concern, there is simply nobody available who can step in and make an impact.

The running game is still an area of concern. Larry Johnson is showing some wear and tear and Jamaal Charles may not be the answer long term. However, one running back has managed to slip through the cracks.

The Kansas City Chiefs are happy to select Donald Brown, runningback from Connecticut.

Well, the Cowboys were considering NT Ron Brace from BC, but Patrick Chung dropped way down the board and the Cowboys will take the opportunity to reunite him with his secondary partner Jarius Byrd. This gives the 'Boys a young, athletic secondary and will also solidify their weak special teams.

With the trade of Julian Peterson to Detroit, the Seahawks could use some more linebacker depth, and I think in time Freeman has the potential to be a solid pro. He's not going to be anything spectacular, but he can be a nice addition to the defense in time.

Oakland with the 71st pick of the NFL Draft Selects C Antoine Caldwell from Alabama.

This address both major needs on the O-Line and helps gives the Raiders some running lanes and keeps Russell upright for more than 2 seconds on a play. The Raiders would have to address DL in the later parts of the draft.

With the 6th pick in Round 3, the Cincinnati Bengals draft DT Ron Brace out of Boston College. This 329 pound beast will help clogging up the middle in the tough AFC North.

Bengals thus far:

Eugene Monroe, LT
Max Unger, C
Ron Brace, DT

Nice steal Redhook, Brace along with Sims, Peko, Shirley could be an outstanding rotation and a versatile one to boot. Shaping up to be one heck of a draft for the Bengals.

I did the best I could to shore up the trenches for the Bengals which is, unfortunately, something they have no clue how do to in real life. I would be ecstatic if the Bengals came close to these three next month.

With their first three picks, I want the Bengals to get two offensive lineman and one defensive lineman. I'm hoping the Bengals get Smith, Monroe, or Raji in Round 1. 2nd round I want the best center available which will probably be Unger or Wood. 3rd round I'd like them to take the opposite of what the first round was.

I'd like them to get a RB and a cornerback in the 4th and 5th rounds.

You may still get another pick in this draft. Compensatory picks will be announced some time next week, the Bengals are believed to be in line to pick up a third round pick.

Yeah I could certainly go with that. One guy I really like late would be RB Devin Moore from Wyoming. I really think we need to find a big time return man.

This would be what I'd want to happen.

1st - Monroe/Maualuga/Raji
2nd - Wood/Unger/Barwin/Kruger
3rd - Sidbury/Ringer/Jennings
4th - Brinkley/Casillas/Trent/Dom Johnson
5th - De. Butler/D.Washington/Bruton
6th - Southerland/D. Moore/Andrew Means
7th - Conley/Huber/Boeckman

That's my list of guys likely ava. with each pick in order of preference (except we all know I secretly want Rey-Rey more than anyone other than maybe WMR's does). That would be OT, OC, DE, ILB, KR/PR, FB, P if all went right. Also I didn't give us our comp picks in there but would prefer one of those CB's I have listed with them. Perhaps I could find a good KR/PR/CB prospect, anyone know of any?

The running game is still an area of concern. Larry Johnson is showing some wear and tear and Jamaal Charles may not be the answer long term. However, one running back has managed to slip through the cracks.

The Kansas City Chiefs are happy to select Donald Brown, runningback from Connecticut.

1.Michael Crabtree
2.Matt Cassell via trade
3.Donald Brown

I think that's a pretty nice haul, especially being able to get Brown in the 3rd. If i had grabbed Pettigrew at #21 instead of Knowshon Moreno, than I would have either used my second 1st rounder or my 2nd round pick to take Brown. I have a feeling that's a much more likely scenario for the real Eagles, anyways.

I was extremely surprised that Brown fell to the third round. He has been rumored to be going to Cleveland or Cincinnati in the second round in other mocks. Definitely better than Rashad Jennings and possibly equal to LeSean McCoy.

As for Philly, with LJ Smith leaving for Baltimore, my guess is a TE could be a factor in their decisionmaking.

The Bills with their third round pick are looking to shore up the interior of their line. So with the 11th pick of the third round Buffalo selects Herman Johnson G LSU. We feel getting Herman at this point in the draft is a steal.

Here is Herman's scouting report:

Johnson is an absolute mammoth of an offensive linemen. Even in a day and age when all of the guys up front are nothing less than massive, Johnson can be an intimidating physical presence at guard. He is 6'7 and a weight of 355 pounds might even be an understatement. While Johnson's size clearly sets him apart, it's the rest of his game that really makes the LSU star a can't-miss NFL prospect. Quite simply, men that large are not supposed to move the way Johnson can move. His 40 time is under 5.5 and he has apparently gone under 5.3 at one point. Johnson's quick feet give him stellar lateral movement along the line as well. Such versatility allows Johnson to play either guard or tackle, but he started all 14 games for the Tigers at left guard as a junior in 2007. He started 10 games at guard as a sophomore as well, so Johnson has the experience to step in and make an impact at the next level right away. His quickness and technique, however, must continue to improve as his size will not be as much of a factor in the NFL, where other linemen can match his size. A First-Team All-SEC selection by the coaches last season, Johnson should be a first-round pick next April as long as he remains injury-free and keeps up his dominant ways.

With the 13th pick in the 3rd round, the Houston Texans get a steal by selecting Taylor Mays, Safety, USC.

Taylor Mays S- USC. The guy has Safety speed and will hit you like a linebacker. Instantly our defense becomes both better against the pass and the rush and the guy can force turnovers because he's always around the ball. I think he's the best defensive player in the draft and he played on the greatest defense arguably in college football history. The guy could make an instant impact in what i believe is the weakest area of our team - the safety position.

Correct me if I'm wrong SCR but didn't Mays return to school for his senior season?

He definitely is the steal of the draft now.

Midway through the schedule, he was 50-50 about leaving for professional football. After the Trojans' Rose Bowl victory over Penn State, the three-year starter was ready to turn pro.

But on Tuesday, Mays announced that he would return for his final season of eligibility.

"I wanted to leave. I still want to leave, but I just think it would be best for me to stay, the best for my future," he said during a brief interview on campus.

Mays, an All-American and Thorpe Award finalist, was projected as a first-round draft pick in the NFL draft. Juniors and third-year sophomores, including quarterback Mark Sanchez, have until Thursday to declare for the April draft.

Mays did not wait for the deadline.

"I can't say I want to come back so I can take Spanish 2, but I just think it would be best for me in the long run," he said. "It might affect making a million dollars right now but hopefully in 10 or 20 years I'll look back on it and be like, 'That was the right decision

Wish I had the time to explain this selection, and it will certainly raise some eyebrows among draft experts, but the Redskins need to start looking for some gritty, hard-nosed football players, period.

With that in mind, the Redskins select:

Round 3, Pick 18 the Detroit Lions select Travis Beckum, TE, Wisconsin. The Lions don't pick again for a few rounds and went with the 'best available player' strategy with this pick since they have already filled several needs and it is still early in the draft.

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/131/341417403_61a69845a0_o.jpg

We are very happy with our picks so far:

1. Matt Stafford, QB, Georgia
20. Andre Smith, OT, Alabama
33. Ziggy Hood, DT, Missouri
65. Macho Harris, CB, Virginia Tech
82. Travis Beckum, TE, Wisconsin

that pick probably screwed somebody over, Beckum is really good. Glad the Bears have Gregg Olsen who is better and looks like Jim Gaffigan.

With the 19th pick in round 3 (acquired from the Jets for some washed-up QB), Green Bay selects DB Darcel McBath, Texas Tech.

Since this will be likely Green Bay's last pick, I'll do a quick draft analysis....

Going with Brown over Orapko in round 1 was close, but I think Brown is a better pure pass rusher. The key to the Packer draft is 2nd-round choice OT Gerald Cadogan. He was a reach, as most sources didn't have him that high, but I needed a left tackle and it seemed like his flaws were technique-related and therefore fixable. I got nosed out by a few picks twice in round 3; I wanted Brace and Francies but I'll live with what I got.

The rest of Green Bay's draft might look something like this:

4. DL
5. RB
6. ILB
6. WR-KR
7. DL

Well, with the 20th pick, the Bears are going to do what they do best and take a defensive back that we feel has fallen through the cracks, Derek Peques, Safety, Mississippi State.

Mike Brown is no longer on the Bears and they need another option back there that is athletic and can actually help the defense, ie not Adam Archuleta. Craig Steltz showed some improvement toward the end of the year but he is not very fast or agile and Peques has great speed that can really help out the Bears defense.

And with the 21st pick in the 3rd round, the Philadelphia Eagles select, Derrick Williams, WR, Penn State:

http://espn-att.starwave.com/media/ncf/2005/1231/photo/g_williams_195.jpg

So to summarize the first three rounds for the Eagles:

1 (21): Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia
1 (28): Alex Mack, C, California
2 (53): Jared Cook, TE, South Carolina
3 (85): Derrick Williams, WR, Penn State

Overall, I'm pleased with the way this draft shapes up, though, I really can't see the Eagles actually taking four straight offensive players to open the draft. I like the idea of having Mack anchor the middle of the line, however, I took him with the assumption/hope that they can fix their hole at LT by moving Todd Herremans out there.
