JUPITER - The Marlins continued to pare down their roster after Tuesday night's game, releasing infielder Dallas McPherson and reassigning outfielders Michael Ryan and Alejandro De Aza, and left-hander John Koronka to minor league camp.

McPherson, who was due to earn $500,000, spent all of last season at Triple-A Albuquerque and led the minor leagues with 42 home runs. He batted .239 (11 for 46) with three doubles, a homer, five walks and 15 strikeouts in Grapefruit League play.

With McPherson, De Aza and Ryan out of the out of the picture, the Marlins will not have a left-handed bat off the bench until the switch-hitting Alfredo Amezaga is ready to come back from a sprained knee.

I thought everyone on here hated Adam Dunn who is a far superior player to McPherson...this guy would break Dunn's strikeout record, hit for a lower average and hit for less power....of course, he would still be better than Lance Nix...:D

How about Jenkins or Willingham? Willingham can hit and has no place to play. Bowden's not there anymore, so we could deal with Washington.

McPherson is not sticking anywhere else...no reason to think he'd do so here.

Not a bad gamble. McPherson has shown great numbers in the minors but never translated that into ML results.

If we had a need at 3B that would be true. EDE is a hell of a lot better player than McPherson has ever proven to be outside of AAA. If we just need a PH then Ward would have been better than McPherson. Rosales is probably better the best option (if one is considering McPherson and Ward), particularly since he can play so many positions.

Right now Jenkins and Catalanotto have been released and would be better options for the Reds if they can be picked up for the minimum. Think, Roberto Petagine and then think of a worse player and you will find: Dallas McPherson...

The guy hit 42 hrs in the minors last year and the Marlins released him there is a reason why.

As a result of this news I am converting to Hinduism.

The existence of a third baseman with these type of minor league numbers confirms the unquestionable doctrine of reincarnation: BRANDON LARSON.

Over the winter the writers here had him starting at first base.

He won't be here. Marlins didn't want him, Angels didn't want him, we shouldn't either. The kid is shaping up to be a colossal bust.
