How can this be a sellout when 3/4 of the premium seats aren't sold?

It's raining fairly hard. I wouldn't be sitting there either. There is a nice club behind that seating area to watch the game on TV.

For those not watching, McDonald caught a ball in deepish Right center, but then dropped the ball taking it out of his mitt and both runners moved up. Out recorded, but runners at second and third.

They are IBBing Castillo.

Bases loaded for Santana. Two outs.

_Sir_Charles_
04-06-2009, 02:33 PM
confusion on a routine popup, Darnell makes the catch and then slips on the wet turf on the throw, both runners advance.

IBB to Castillo to fill the bases and Johan coming up. 2 down btw.

HeatherC1212
04-06-2009, 02:33 PM
It sounds like he made the catch but couldn't get the ball back to the infield. If he slipped in the grass, how is that an error? You can't really control the grass when it's raining.

I hate putting more runners on when Harang's on the mound. I don't care that it is the pitcher. I manage damage control with Harang's chuck and duck style.

He dropped the ball in the exchange, that's why he got an error.

The ball was moving around before he ever tried to take it out, so it was close.

I didn't know Darnell McDonald was a first round draft pick...

That '97 draft overall looks rather bad. Of the 52 players drafted in the first round (a lot of compensations), 22 never saw the bigs. Glaus, Drew, Vernon Wells, Garland and Berkman are the biggies - but beyond that, there were some real stinkers. It continues on down to at least the fifth round, where I stopped when I ran into DWayne Wise.

Typical Dusty. It's not enough that Darnell McDonald is our opening day CF, Dusty of course has to bat the worst hitter on the team (sans Janish) second in the lineup. And I'm sure when Janish plays, he'll bat second instead of eighth where he should obviously be.

Today, Dusty should have bat McDonald eighth and moved everyone else up a spot in the order. But what do I know -- I operate under the assumption that a manager wants to get as many at-bats as possible for his best hitters.

Darnell just quite simply has to go. And while I am confident he'll go soon, I have a feeling he'll be the 2009 version of Quinton McCracken. He'll give away a few PAs, botch a few balls in the field, and in the end while the stats sheet won't reflect total chaos, reality will show that he was a massive roster gaffe.
