MILWAUKEE – The Reds are pursuing an All-Star date for 2013, Karen Forgus, the club’s senior vice president of business operations, said on Monday.

“We’re pushing hard on it,” Forgus said. “We’re actively pursuing it.”

Forgus said the team’s desire to host an All-Star Game is one reason it sought the Civil Rights Game, which will be played June 20 against the Chicago White Sox at Great American Ball Park.

Henry Aaron, Muhammad Ali and Bill Cosby are scheduled to be in town that weekend to accept awards. President Obama has also been invited.

“We want to illustrate how great of a city Cincinnati is,” Forgus said.

She said hosting the Civil Rights Game will not preclude Cincinnati from an All-Star date.

The Reds last hosted the All-Star Game in 1988. The city has hosted four games in all.

The game alternates between American League and National League cities every year. St. Louis is hosting this year. With Arizona getting the next National League date in 2011, Cincinnati’s next three chances are 2013, 2015 and 2017.

Forgus said the team has done mock time lines to check the availability of venues such as Duke Energy Center as it targets prospective years.

She added that Bob Castellini, the Reds president and chief executive officer, is also lobbying MLB commissioner Bud Selig.

“If they come here, they’ll be the event in town,” Forgus said. “We can do things on both sides of the river. We’ll bring riverboats in. We’ll go all out.”

I'd love for an AS game come here. I'd be sure to save up $$ to get tickets, and I would love to experience the HR Derby, Futures Game, etc. as well.

Plus by 2013 we should have a few All-Stars on the roster, hopefully.

That would be awesome if they could land an All-Star game. I'd make it to all of the festivities for sure.

Me too. I'd love it and definitely would go if I could get tickets. Heck.........if they get it, they should put tickets on sale years in advance. ;)

Call it a SWAG, but what about the 2019 All-Star Game? It would be the 150th anniversary of "professional baseball" (i.e. the 1869 Red Stockings) and seem like a good way to celebrate it...

Just my pondering, nothing at all to substantiate that, but when I read the article, that was the first thing that popped into my head...
