Well, the looking at a lot of pitches thing seems to have been forgotten by the Reds. Lots of first pitch swinging the past few days.

Offense may be pressing a bit....it'd at least would be something they're doing

I agree and the fact that he's not shaking off Ramon much is helping too. Does anybody know if they've removed that "no shaking off pitches" rule for Cueto from last year?

When Cueto shakes a catcher off, he's not shaking off the catcher, he's shaking off the dugout, something I would guess it's a great idea.

Look at the catchers looking into the dugout, they're giving the signs to the catcher.

Yeah, I knew that...I just meant in general. He was prohibited from doing it last season (at least for a while). I never heard if it was taken off or not.

The fact that this is a reasonable statement proves that Gonzalez has no use on this team. If we are suggesting that he needs a defensive sub, then why is he still here? Isn't defense the only thing he brings to the table?

But he fought back like a champ. Weathers just seems in some sort of zone this year, where he has a great idea where his pitches are going and is really setting up hitters. I hope some of the young pitchers on the team are paying attention when he and Rhodes are on the mound right now...

I went back and reviewed the Votto ball. The fan did touch it. Didn't think so at the time.

Johnny Cueto was terrific tonight. I love that kid.

Huge win by the Reds. They are now 6-3 on this road trip with only one game remaining.

Thanks. That's on the production trucks for WGN and FSN Ohio that they didn't highlight that for their viewers then. And the umps should have been asked to review it.

2 Hits for Phillips.
Big hit for Votto.
HR from Bruce.
Excellent pitching all around.
No errors.

May be the best game all year. Only Hairston's loafing marred this one.

This was a great game. Really fun.

My friend tells me he benched both Bruce and Cueto from his fantasy team this week. Not his finest decisions.

And a first for the majors this year...no walks for either side. At least that's what the announcers said.

I agree. This is the best win of the season. IMO.

Wow, Coco has now saved 100 games in the NL and 100 games in the AL. That's pretty cool and I actually forgot that he pitched in the AL for a while! Congrats Coco! :)

Great road trip so far. At the start of this series, I just wanted them to take one game at least. They did it. If they win tomorrow, that would be awesome but if not, I'm more than happy with a 6-4 trip. This is definately a different brand of baseball, hopefully they can keep getting W's.

I don't have Bruce (missed out on him by one freaking pick) but I do have Cueto that's huge for me.

Man that made me mad seeing him loaf down to first!!Then to see Dusty leave him in the lineup made me even more mad.If I was the manager he would have been setting on the bench for a while.

Great game thow by the Reds tonight! Great pitching and great defense was what won that game for the Reds tonight.GO REDS!!!!!!

The Reds pitching has gotten hit around in a few games, but through 14 games the Reds' pitching staff has allowed 3 or fewer runs 7 times and their 6-1 in those games. Thats strong. Hopefully it continues.

That's impressive, but the other side of that is when they allow 4 or more runs they are 2-5. This means the pitching must be super sharp to win games. I fear the mid season when the hitters have caught up, but I'm just a worry wart. We need offense.

If the Reds are in it at the halfway point of the season, I'm guessing Jocketty and Castellini will address the need for more offense. The trick is to get there first.

Yes we do need offense, and if the Reds are within strking distance come mid June on into July, and if the offence doesn't turn it around, I have complete confidence in Walt to make a move. Having said that, it appears Bruce is starting to hit and hopefully Phillips heats up as well. If the Reds can scratch and claw to the point where they can score 4 runs on most nights, I feel they will win some games.

The biggest fear is that even well pitched games require three or four pitchers. The clock is ticking on this pen of short stint guys. IMO, there will be a meltdown at some point. There are enough good arms in AAA that they may get by anyway as long as WJ is willing to cut bait on somebody like Lincoln to make room for a fresh arm or two.

Fantastic game tonight. A real pleasure to watch.

But JHJ dogging it on that DP really infuriated me...curious if Dusty says anything to him? TBH, I was hoping he would have yanked him after that, but alas, it was not to be.

Man, 7-3 would be a sick good RT!

Weathers always scares me, but by god the man seems to get the job done time after time. I hope he can keep it up, we'll see. Any of the guys who really follow the minors and AAA think Josh Roenicke is ready?

Bullpen meltdown is possible, but, with the four horses in the rotation and Owings as fifth starter, the only worry is health. And age. Health and age... and effectiveness, of course. There's always that. Health, age, and effectiveness. And past history. Have I mentioned that one already? No? Add that one, then. Health, age, effectiveness, and past history. That's it. Nothing more...

Seriously, if the rotation can stay healthy, the pen is more likely to as well. The problems come when the pen has to do its job plus log starter innings. With both Cueto and Volquez pitching well this week along with positive outings from Arroyo and Harang, it bodes well. If Owings gets it together (and he didn't pitch all that poorly last night-- his LF screwed him, as did Lincoln), this staff could be special.

For a 5th starter, I'm more than ok with Owings.

Too many arms up and throwing every day. Even when they don't pitch guys are up and throwing. Guys who are one or two batter guys are being used longer. Eventually they'll wear down. I just see only Masset being a guy to go more than an inning. When the starter goes 6, that means three relievers used as well. They'll have their arms hanging by the end of June.

I think you have to be willing to pitch Masset today as a 6 or 7th inning guy. He hasn't pitched in a week and with Burton and Lincoln struggling maybe give him a shot with Voloquez going tomorrow.
