And Aaron Harang breathes a little bit more now that he actually has TWO runs to work with in this game. ;)

And since I'm going to a game this weekend, I will totally take a BRM-Vottomatic sign to the game on Saturday afternoon. :D

Ya...Earl Weaver style smallball....

Yeah, but a single would've scored Wily too. Again, not trying to start an argument, but I think speed is actually underrated now. Those two bases Wily got from the errand pick off throw (which he helped force, due to his base stealing ability) aren't going to show up in his OPS or RC.

If the Reds can win this game and head home with a big success, maybe they can sell some tickets this week. Anyone think that may get the team to go out and get a legit LF bat? DIckerson and Hairston have been a disaster and even if the defense was perfect, LF is a spot for a big bat and they'll never hit enough to make up ground on the opposition with guys like Soriano, Lee, Ludwick and Braun out there.

Defense and all, Dickerson would have been ok in CF leaving LF open for a big bat. Since we have Willy, Dickerson should sit and the big bat should be acquired.

I'm not a fan of letting a pitch sail past just because it's the first one. If it's in your hitting zone, go for it. You may not get another. Just don't swing at BAD pitches. And even with the slump, he's not really reaching for pitches.

It was right down the middle of the zone...what should he have done?

I'm not a fan of letting a pitch sail past just because it's the first one. If it's in your hitting zone, go for it. You may not get another. Just don't swing at BAD pitches. And even with the slump, he's not really reaching for pitches.

Typically, I believe you swing at a first pitch that's in the zone. With Phillips, however, it appears that he's trying WAY too hard. He'll even swing at things down in the dirt on the 1st pitch. It might be good for him to just get in there and settle in for a pitch before he tries to do anything else. After a few at-bats, go back to swinging at the first pitch in the zone.

The guy just needs to calm down.

Why is Harang still on the mound?

Why not? 4 run lead and he's shy of his normal pitch count. Short leash is what I'd have him on.

Lead off single and Dusty looks like he's pulling him. IMO that was handled perfectly in regards to Harang.

Agree with this. Jump on it when you get it, even if its the first pitch. Phillips history does lead one to believe that it may not have been a great pitch though. If you are watching you know more than I.

With good cheap arms, you get good cheap relief performances.

There is no young reliever in this organization right now who can be trusted pitching the eighth inning like Weathers can. Some may get there, for sure. But not now.
