Pitch count 95. One more inning or do ya' let him go for the complete game shutout? (I think a SO would be the Reds 5th of the year---very impressive to me at this point in the season.)

Unless the Reds get a couple of runners on base in the top of the 8th Cueto won't come to bat. Throw him out there for the 8th an PH in the 9th or let him try to finish it?

Thoughts?

Pete Rose, #14. 1+4 = 5

Adam Rosales, #23. 2+3 = 5

Coincidence?

I think not!

Moss robs Rosales of a single and doubles up Brandon. Nice play...tough luck.

Top of 8:

BP singles up the middle.

Bruce gets under one a bit. Flies to RF. 1 out

Meek is squeezed a bit early in the count 3-0 to Hernandez. 3-1 and then walks. Runners on 1st and 2nd.

Rosales lines to a half diving Moss. BP is doubled off second. 3 out

(Pirates have played tough D, all series long)

After 7 and 1/2, Reds 5 Pirates 0.

Unless the Reds have a chance to completely bury the Buccos in this inning, I let JC hit (if it comes to that) and let him throw the 8th. How well/quickly he gets the 8th done would determine weather I'd bring in someone else for the 9th.

OK. I'm sending Johnny out there for another inning.

Get Weathers, Burton, Cordero, Rhodes ready for the 9th if need be but, if there is no damage done by the Bucs in the 8th, I'm letting Johnny have a shot at finishing this game in the 9th. What a boost it would be to his confidence and that would be a couple of fabulous performances back-to-back. Actually it already is two fabulous performances already.

Bottom of 8:

The less famous Laroche singles.

Jaramillo pops to Rosales in foul ground 1 out.

Hinske batting for Meek. Cueto falls behind 3-1. Then gets Hinske to fly to WT. 2 out

Vasquez up. He bounces an awkward ball to Votto who makes a diving play and steps on the bag. 3 out.

Great outing by Cueto. This ain't your older step brother's Reds folks.

After a full 8, Reds 5 Pirates 0.

Cueto has been terrific today but at 109 pitches I bring in the bullpen for the 9th. A CG in May is not as important as making sure your pitchers are not throwing too many pitches.

Gonzo as a nice at bat. Bounces back to Chavez who makes a nice play. 1 out

I'm going to the games on Saturday and Sunday vs the Cardinals. Unfortunately, Cueto pitches Friday so I won't get to see him. I will get to see Edinson though, and Arroyo.

Great win. Three shutouts in four games is crazy.

Now hopefully they can win at least one of two in Florida and come away with another winning road trip.

First off, big thanks to forfreelin04 for the inning summaries. If you miss an inning or step away (or fall asleep), it's all there. I know this isn't easy, but it makes the GT so much better. Fantastic!

Cueto is maturing as we watch. Great command and we finally see what Hernandez brings to the team. A major league catcher--something this team hasn't had in too long. Phillips breaks out of it somewhat and we didn't just depend on Votto to bring home runs. Good day.

Lots of questions remain. Was Dickerson's 2008 a freak? It's early, but he doesn't look like the same player. Will Gonzalez be able to shake off the rust of a year of inactivity to hit again? Can Arroyo maintain his present powress? In this series, our starters (No.'s 3-4-5) pitched 21+ innings of 10-hit ball and an ERA of 2.04 (and that's with Owings' horrible outing). That's unbelievable.

With a little offense, this team wins 90 games. I hope Walt is watching and on the phone.

Your welcome. They aren't easy. Bathroom breaks have to be kept to a minimum! :p:

I will be moving back to Ohio soon and won't have the luxury of watching the Reds on the computer so..... if someone wanted to start doing the inning recaps starting Tuesday night, that would would be great.

I think WV is right. The inning recaps our actually better if your in and out of the house etc. Also, it's a good reference point for future post game posts.
