Louisville - 7:05 - LHP Adam Pettyjohn

Carolina - 7:15 - RHP Matt Klinker

Sarasota - 7:00 - RHP Luis Montano

Dayton - 7:00 - RHP Oscar Castro

I didn't know Klinker had been promoted. He's probably taking the spot of Dallas Buck, who left his last start early with an injury. I haven't heard anything about the injury so it's probably nothing too serious.

THE VIRTUOSO: LHP Pedro Viola (Louisville) last night vs. Rochester pitched a scoreless inning of relief (2h, 1bb)...since allowing a run in his first appearance of the season on 4/14 vs Toledo (solo HR), he’s pitched 8.1 scoreless innings.

HOOK, LINE AND KLINKER: RHP Matt Klinker yesterday was promoted from Class-A Sarasota to Double-A Carolina and will start tonight for the Mudcats vs Mobile...Klinker, 24, is a graduate of Lakota West High School and pitched collegiately at Furman University...in 5 starts this season for Sarasota, he allowed 16 runs in 26.2 innings (5bb, 23k).

YONDER THE RESPONDER: 1b Yonder Alonso (Sarasota) last night vs. Ft. Myers went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored...he’s currently riding an 8-game hitting streak (9-30, .300, 2hr, 11rbi) that has lifted his batting average 27 points and his OPS (on-base pct. + slugging pct.) 52 points...Alonso’s 26 RBI lead the Florida State League.

SWEET 600: Louisville’s Rick Sweet tonight will manage his 600th game for the Bats...with a 316-283 career record for Louisville, he’s the franchise’s all-time winningest manager...his 1,365 career wins rank 5th among all active minor league skippers.

Nice to see Sutton in the lineup. This will be his Reds organizational debut.

Justin Reed is back with Sarasota. He's leading off and playing CF.

Oops, just noticed he returned last night.

Did he owe someone money in Billings?

GOYA

Sutton fields two balls in the first. Routine stuff.

Pettyjohn pitched batting practice in the first. Bats down 3-0.

To be fair, Pettyjohn was hurt by Bankston double pumping a throw to 2nd on a pick-off. This is the 3rd time Bankston's double pumps have hurt us this year.

Brian Peterson is off the Bats roster. No surprise.

Hopper gets another hit to lead off but is stranded.

Sutton - pop up
Bankston - K
Barker - K

Hopper is batting .405 in his last 10 games, including tonight.

Bolivar with a throwing error in the 2nd. Bats lead the league in errors.

GOYA

Pettyjohn holds them scoreless in the 2nd. Tatum actually threw out a runner trying to steal 2nd.

2 IP - 4 H - 3 R - 0 BB - 0 K

Still 3-0 going to the bottom of the 3rd.

Drew Stubbs can play some serious CF. ;)

Bats get nothing in the 3rd. Rochester pitcher Reid Santos has retired 9 in a row since Hopper's lead off single. 3 Ks. He came into the game with an ERA of 7.98.

I'm no fan of Norris Hopper's but it's hard for me to see why he'd be less useful on the Reds roster than McD or JHJ.

I would add Dickerson to that list. But I might not agree about McDonald.

I'd disagree about CD because I do think he can develop into an effective platoon player and I wouldn't argue about McD. Reshaping the Reds roster should begin, I agree, with JHJ.

Bolivar with another error on a double play ball.

Bases loaded with no outs for Roch.

Jukich coming in.

Having seen Dickerson for most of last season at Louisville, the CD you saw at Cincy was a mirage. He may end up being a solid MLB player but not yet.

Sweet got tossed by the 1st AAA year home umpire on questionable call.

That was Sweet's 600th game.

GOYA

11-2

Bankston got up in the face of that umpire during the 7th inning stretch. Smokey and Power went and got him but he may have been tossed too.

The radar gun reached 101 on a pitch by Red Wing Juan Morillo.

edit: Bankston is gone.

A hit and a steal for Stubbs. He is 7 for 10 in the steals dept. Hopper is 6 for 6.

GOYA
05-05-2009, 10:42 PM
Hopper with another double. 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, 2 RBIs and batting .315 for the season. .425 in his last 10 games.

Sutton gets his first hit after going 0 for 3 with 2 Ks.

Dorn follows with a broken bat RBI single.

Bats put up a little fight and lose 13-9. Roenicke gave up 2 in the 9th.

Hopper 3 for 5

Gomes 2 for 5 with a HR (4)

With SWB coming to town the Bats better get it together quickly.

Well, it's only one game, but I'm glad your reshaping didn't happen before tonight. JHJ walked, had a perfect bunt single, had a slicing double to right, stole a base, scored three runs, and made a perfect relay throw to nail a runner at the plate. Just like last year.

Maybe the reshaping could start with somebody else. There are a number of candidates, I would think.

Exactly. Hairston has looked a lot worse this year, but last night (and the night before, when he lined hard to center) he's looked a lot like he did last year at the plate -- and that was VERY good.

Hah, good one wish it was still Wayne.

I dont want Darnell McDonald to be replaced by Norris Hopper. I want Darnell McDonald to be replaced with someone with some power.

Nothing really against Hopper but it would be like bringing up Danny Richar and demoting Janish.

Yeah I'd prefer Gomes for the time being, at least he gives you a guy who can hit for power in situations where you need a bomb or even just a long drive to the OF.
