Carolina ties it at 1 in the top of the 6th, a Henry bunt single brought home Denove. Sounds like Mallett is really in a groove after giving up the first inning run.

It's getting chippy now. Birmingham's pitcher threw high and tight on Frazier after Frazier glared at him for going inside the pitch before. A couple players from each dugout came out onto the field to join the jawing. Warnings have now been issued by the home plate ump.

Just got back from the Bats - Bulls game. I got there late but only several hard hit balls off of Homer that I saw. Unfortunately, two went out of the park. Didn't see any obvious concentration problems. Velocity was great - would have to go to my toes to count the number of times he hit 95 or 96 on the gun, and even saw 98 on two pitches, one for a 3rd out strikeout with runner on third base. Seemd to have all his pitches working. Overall pretty good tonight - really fooled a lot of Bulls batters.

From snooping around on the web a little it is posted that he throws 87-89. So he may touch 90. I have also seen that his change up is his strike out pitch and that he relays on control. I have read someone comparing him to Matt Maloney. It would appear that he is more finesse than power. (not that there's anything wrong with that) I have never seen him pitch so take the preceding with a grain of salt.

Was Fariel a HS pitcher headed for UF? If so, I think there's a chance he adds a couple more MPH over the next couple of years.

Fairel is actually 21 already (22 in July). He pitched at FSU. He's 6'3" 203 lbs. according to milb.com, so he has a good pitcher's frame.

That sounds about right. He can hit 90, I have seen it. I haven't seen him hit higher than 90 though. When he is on, he has good offspeed stuff and real good control. Guys like that can flat out own low A hitters for the most part. I think Fairel and Maloney are similar pitchers in terms of upside though.

I agree with Doug, Ive seen him in the CWS he is similar to Thurman, theyre both like Kent Merker, decent fastball but lots good breaking balls that move all over the place.
