Reds backup INF Rick Auerbach and Dodgers backup INF Derrel Thomas were ejected in the altercation. Prior to the game, the Reds traded OF Champ Summers to the Tigers for a player to be named later. The Reds received left-handed relief pitcher Sheldon Burnside after the season.
