It's a great story. Brandon gets a lot of crap around here sometimes (IMO) for being a bad guy...but I think he's got a pretty big heart.

I agree, guys here want players to hit .1000 coming out of the gate and he stayed positive worked hard, you can tell by the video he has a big heart and thats all I wanted to show everybody

Personally I prefer my players to hit a little bit better than 1 for 10 out of the gate, but I digress.

I'd like to get Jpup's thoughts on that one.

As long as none of the kids implied that Phillips and/or the Reds could use any help in the form of another bat then things were fine. :D

I sure like to hear when sports stars give back to the community. We get to hear plenty whenever one gets in trouble, or makes an innappropriate comment to the media. It is good to see them when they do good works.

And when a guy pays $32,000 to build a new ballfield for the kids in west Cincinnati, I have no problem if they name it after him.

My kids and I met Brandon in spring training 2008, and he signed autographs and was very nice. I know some haven't had the same experience, but I did, and I have a lot of respect for Brandon Phillips.

I'm guessing Phillips' response had more to do with the delivery of said fan than with fans in general.

He had a history of being solid, stand-up and personable with the fans.

Phillips is a nice guy, seems genuine, and loves Cincinnati.

That was a great piece on FSO today....appreciated the seeing him surprise his Mom and Dad. Good stuff.

Good for Brandon. That was a wonderful gesture.

I don't think Phillips takes anymore heat from RedsZone as any of the other players do.
