You guys want to talk about the game or what?

Ok, i'm done.

I'd like to see DRH cut down on his walks some.

I realize that a part of his game is to get hitters to go after pitches that thay can't hit but I'd like to see him tighten it up a little.

DRH just threw a 87 mph fastball---probably at the top of his range but MLB hitters haven't seen stuff like his since high school.

Maybe that's the problem with his walks; umpires have seen stuff like his since high school either!

DRH has limited runs this year like a champ. I think as umps get used to him he will start getting the close calls and his walks will plummet as well. I think he can spin for himself a nice long career.

Time to plunk somebody

Not with Danny Rey on the mound. The hitter would just catch it and toss it back to him on the way to 1st.

Seriously though, I really like this guy. I'm pulling for him to have a great career.

We were talking about Trevor Hoffman earlier: Hoffman's fastball doesn't top out much higher than Danny's but he's got rep and a great slider going for him.

Danny Rey, if he can continue to keep hitters off balance, might just have a pretty decent career.

One thing that I am too lazy to go figure out right now, the Reds' avg/obp/slg etc. against the bullpens of the teams they have played this year. McClung is simply the latest in a longish line of guys who have replaced starters who the Reds have beat around and then proceeded to shut the team down. At least, that's how it seems to me. Have no idea if that is the case or not, I guess.

The Votto stuff is really weird.

I obviously don't know anything about the specifics about what's going on with him but what's been told by the organization. But the more I think about it I have to wonder what the rest of the guys think. Effectively Votto bailed on them for selfish reasons and that can't sit real well. Certainly Votto seems to be everything you'd want from a player but this isn't the first time he's done this either. Wondering aloud I guess.

Every starter on the Reds, except for Cueto according to FCB, is problematic yet the long man in the Brewers bully should be starting? Oh my!

How is it bailing on the team if the player can't play? Whatever is going on it's no different than if it's a broken leg. JMO, of course and I don't know any more than you but I don't see it as bailing...

Definitely got some soul-searchin' to do--the Reds threw their very best (Cueto and Harang) at Milwaukee's 3-4 pitchers (Looper and Bush) and came up empty. I'd be rethinking contention if I were Walt. Two teams in their own division who are clearly better teams usually doesn't equal a playoff appearance.

jojo
05-30-2009, 11:10 PM
I don't think its fair to pile on Harang when he has generally pitched pretty well this year, FCB and Jojo. He didn't have it tonight. He didn't have his patented slider at all. Why can't folks just leave it at that instead of overreacting and start playing taps each time a pitcher has a bad outing.

I've argued he's above average so it's not really fair to take me to task... :beerme:

Gang, I have to attend to the grill and cook dinner for the family. Can someone pick up the PBP?

Apparently not.

I just wanted to say thank you Membengal. I wasn't able to watch/listen to the game tonight and I appreciate the pbp. Unfortunately, nobody else was willing/able to pick it up. From this game thread, I have no clue what the final score even was. Nobody posted the actual occurances of the game...just complained about Dusty not pulling Harang, or that Harang doesn't have it, or is a below average starter...the usual. Chip even threw in a not-so-subtle reminder to talk about the game. It's this kind of thing that makes the game threads kind of annoying. But again, like I said earlier, thanks Mem...it IS appreciated.

you know, I hate Milwaukee, the Brewers, and Bud Selig. I hate the fact that we put our two best pitchers out there and we had no run support for one and the other had a bad night. The result was we went from hot to not and face a sweep tomorrow.

Inconsistency usually means a .500 record, and friends, I fear that's what we're going to see. It's better than nothing.

Of course I could. That's not what I meant (and I think you knew that). It was that the game basically became ignored in favor of the favorite RedsZone tradition...the pile on. Just irritating. But mostly I just wanted to tell Mem that I appreciated the PBP.

I agree. The days of him being a top 15 arm were short-lived and will remain in the rearview. He's a Brad Radke-esque back end stabilizer arm. Nice to have around, but a guy whose FIP will likely be in the range of last year's 4.78. In other words, an average starter. If the Reds are going to make any noise this season Cueto and Volquez are going to have to be the drivers, not experiencing ANY dropoff whatsoever from here on in (and really, Owings is going to have make true--not luck--improvements--i.e. stop BB-ing the universe).
