nuff said. I knew it. I think Dusty knew it too. If he had to go to Lincoln the game is over.

I'm just wondering how he holds a roster spot?

He should be released. Lincoln has been horrible all year. I can think of at least two other games he has contributed to losses. Pitiful.

Well it's just that Dusty seems to know he can't go to Lincoln, he knew in a tight game like today he just couldn't bring him in unless forced. And he's not an innings eater. So why is he here?

IMO you move owings to the pen and Maloney stays as the lefty of the rotation if Edison is okay. If not, I'd like to see Lincoln released and see if Roenicke can add another nice arm to the pen.

Hopefully they just keep pounding him here so the front office will finally do something.

I got an idea. Lets fight blood, sweat, tears, and nails for 14 innings with a depleted lineup and shortened roster. Lets battle for 5 hours and then send Lincoln out there to take a big poopy in the nice cake we spent all sunday afternoon baking.

Oh wait, we did that.

He's been pounded all season. OPS Against is 1.112. :(

Only reason he's still on the squad is he somehow lucked his way to a 3.12 ERA in May. He's been the 25th man on this roster for too long, and there's too many good relievers sitting in Louisville that should have his spot.

It's amazing he managed to give up the same amount of runs in 1 inning, that the rest of the team gave up in 13. Rosales also deserves a lot of credit for this loss as well though, leaving men on 3rd twice with 1 out.

He almost did it last night too, if it weren't for a horrible throw from third to home.

Anyone who missed today's game missed a little slice of baseball history as Mike "One Pitch" Lincoln took the mound for the last time in a Reds' uniform. Hopefully.

Talk about some bad signings.

Lincoln and Taveras should have never received 2 year deals. I could have dealt with 1 year ones but 2 just makes you wonder.

The real reason he's still here:

Mike Lincoln rhp
2 years/$4M (2009-10)

2 years/$4M (2009-10)
re-signed by Cincinnati as a free agent 12/4/08
09:$1.5M, 10:$2.5M
performance bonuses based on games, starts:

$25,000 each for 45, 50 g; $50,000 each for 55, 60 g; $0.1M for 65 g
$50,000 each for 12, 15, 18, 21, 23, 25, 27 GS

Nice signing there.

We shoulda have just put Janish back on the mound. He probably at least throws a little harder.

Yeah Lincoln stinks but my God what a comically inept, horrific offense. It's like everytime we have runners in scoring position late in the game we send up Leslie Nielsen.

The 2 year contract he signed in Dec 2008 is keeping him on the team. Reds would have to eat the 2.5 million he is owed next year. Hopefully Jocketty gets the ok from Castellini to eat the money and Lincoln doesnt take the trip to D.C.

Id like to see Manuel, Viola or Roenicke take his place.

No one knew Lincoln would be this bad, he was lights out last year! They cant get rid of him and he has no options. Lincoln is officially the black sheep of this staff and the only reason he should see the mound in the next month is in mop up duty!

However, you can not blame this loss on Lincoln the Reds had numerous opportunties(15 runners LOB) to get it done and didnt. Licoln should of never seen the mound! With Votto being out for possibly months the only shot this team has is acquiring a bat Holiday, Dye. Otherwise our playoff hopes will be gone by the end of the month.

This team is absolutely anemic offensively! We need a trade Walt and we need one NOW!

That's the thing. Lincoln throws pretty hard. He just can't get anybody out.

Mike Lincoln is just not that good at baseball, which is unfortunate considering we are paying him a helluva lot of money to do just that.

He needs to be demoted (he'll pass waivers) and we need to bring up Roenicke.

I agree Lincoln stinks, but this game should have been over before extra innings were ever needed. We left runners at 3rd at least 3 time I can remember with less than 2 outs and did not score. It is gonna be tough until we get Votto back and Bruce starts hitting again. I agree with the poster above that said release Lincoln, move Owens to the Pin and call up Malonley to be the 5th starter. Or if that is not possible there has got to be a better option out there for us. Lincoln needs to go but we should have won this game without ever seeing him in the lineup today.

Hmmmm, how come there are no threads blaming our offense for losing a game?

There is related discussion in the Brook Jacoby thread. I'm shocked you posted in a thread where you couldn't rip Dunn or Bruce. ;)

How about keeping Maloney in the starting rotation and put Owings in the bullpen when Voluquez returns. Then get Lincoln out of there.

Off the top of my head (and unfortunately I watched this one sober), I can't think of one single swing and miss in that entire inning... When Lincoln pitches, he finds bats, and he's hit hard. He's absolutely awful.

If you're going to hope for something, how about Lincoln finding out why he's not pitching like he did last year and fixing what's wrong? A trip to the DL and an extended rehab in Louisville. Or Sarasota. Yeah, Sarasota sounds like a better plan.

Don't blame Lincoln.

He didn't lose the game.

We were something like 0 for 12 with RISP.

That's why we lost the game.

Don't blame Lincoln.

He didn't lose the game.

Cincinnati IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
Arroyo 7.0 5 3 1 2 2 1 5.00
Rhodes 1.0 0 0 0 0 1 0 0.45
Herrera 0.1 0 0 0 1 0 0 1.59
Weathers 0.2 0 0 0 0 1 0 2.66
Burton 1.1 1 0 0 3 0 0 5.47
Fisher 1.2 0 0 0 0 4 0 2.45
Cordero 1.0 2 0 0 0 0 0 1.44
Lincoln (L, 1-1) 1.0 4 3 3 2 0 1 9.00

I mean I know the Reds squandered some opportunities. The Cubs did as well. But Lincoln came in a straight up lost the game.

Arroyo made a mistake, the offense was terrible, Lincoln blew a tie game = the REDS lost the game as a team.

SOME opportunities?

The REDS were 0-13!!!!!!

The Cubs at least came through 4 times with base hits with RISP.

It is laughable how bad this guy has been. I just can't see how he can't be sent down upon a Volquez return. I think it will take that long to get rid of him even though he shoulda been cut after the game was over during Dusty's postgame conference. At least if Roenicke was up we could get a little excited knowing we get to see someone throw gas. Licoln reminds me of the headaches we all got from Todd Coffey.

i agree 100% with you that Lincoln should be gone but he is not the ONLY reason the reds lost yesterdays game.

you could definitely say, "oh well it never should have gotten to lincoln because the offense blew so many chance." well, the offense did blow it but the game DID get to lincoln and his job was to pitch a scoreless inning. he has a 9 ERA. that's not very good

When Volquez returns, send Owings to the pen, where he can double as an effective pinch hitter and long relief guy... Keep Maloney in the rotation.
