Off-day...I know a trade is unlikely...but will we see any call-ups/send-downs? Any meaningful updates on Votto/EE? Or will we just continue to march out this Mudville 9 less a Mighty Casey?

I'm just hoping Jay Bruce doesn't get sent down. And obviously I'm hoping that Votto or Edwin's return is anounced but I think that is wishful thinking.

It's funny how the Reds have needed good pitching for years and years, and now that they have it, they forgot about the offense.

I think they are trying to keep status quo as long as they are less than 5 games out. Unfortunately, I think they will regret not moving forward to put some more wins up early in the season in such as mediocre division thus far. Almost like settling for field goals instead of touchdown early in a football game.

AGon is actually batting .252 since May 1st after his horrid start, that is about the kinda average I am guessing management expected from him when they signed him. The Problem is he is not drawing any walks, but I would guess that is almost as much AGon as it is who we have in our lineup right now.

Well its not like Agon is that good of a career hitter anyways. Hes only drawn 228 walks in 4500+ PA.

Its just I think they think he is a better than he really is with the bat. I think a .240/.280/.330 line is about as much as we should/expect from him.

I'm not sure it would be something terrible for Jay to sent down. It happens to most players in their early years. He needs some success. Grinding day after day, trying to force something to happen just isn't getting it done.

Sometimes I wonder if his first couple weeks in the bigs last year is still stuck in his head somehow. He made it look too easy, and he really hasn't hit well since. It's really hard to watch him attempt to hit right now. And yes he does make some hard outs. But an out is an out. I don't see Puhols crying about his "hard hit outs", which is about all of the outs he makes.

Then again, it's embarrassing to watch any of them hit right now. I actually had to turn the game off yesterday after that pathetic 3rd innning.

It just amazed me how these guys can be so good one week, and so horrific the next. I mean the extremes are just unbelievable.

Maybe Jay and Joey need to both go back to Triple AAA for a reality check. Spend a couple of weeks riding buses and eating fast food. Jay just might find his stroke real quick, and maybe Votto will realize that being a MLB player isn't as stressful as he thought.

Gonzo is tied with Nix for 3rd on the Reds in hits (10) for the month of June. Plus, how many baserunners does Gonzo prevent with his glove? If SS is a problem for the Reds, I'd take that problem any day.

With regards to moves on this off day, there are two sides of me:

One side says something NEEDS to be done. Coming off of the bad offensive showings in Washington and Kansas City, new blood must be brought in to try to jumpstart the offense. Send one pitcher down (Burton or Fisher?) and bring up either Sutton or Stubbs. If a 40-man roster spot is needed, put Bill Bray on the 60-day DL.

While this alternative may make the casual fan happy, is it really going to help? Is Sutton or Stubbs really going to make a dramitic difference? Looking back, Rosales was going to save the offense about a month ago after OPSing 1.233 at Louisville (now at 0.611 with the Reds). Will Drew Sutton, who is OPSing 0.907, be able to jumpstart this offense? I don't really think so.

Unfortunately in this situation, I'm not sure the Reds can win. If they make a move, the player will (most likely) not be ready to be THE guy that saves the Reds offense. If they don't make a move, then the fanbase is outraged.

Being Walt sure can't be that easy.

If you think back, when Rosales first got called up he provided a spark to the offense a bit, and then he quickly regressed. I could see Sutton providing a bit of a spark for a week or two and then regressing like Rosales, which at this point I am fine with we just can't leave him up here for too long like Rosales.

Sutton has a little bit different skill set than Rosales. Sutton has a better eye, and has shown a little more LD% in the minors than Rosales normally does.

Even a superficial move gives the appearance of doing something. Ordinarily, I'd roll my eyes at that, but this club needs a change to shake things up.

I just fet the feeling SOMETHING is gonna go down today. Not a trade but a roster move or something. I don't think they'll bring up Stubbs unless he's going to play everyday. And the outfield is already clogged with guys not doing their jobs. Fill in the blank.

I find this whole thing just crazy. I wish we knew what the problem was. It's the whole not knowing that bothers me. Not that I should know, but if your job is to play baseball and you are physically able to play, why aren't you?

He's my favorite player on the Reds, but can you imagine what his team mates would be saying if he played 20 years ago? My fear is that the guy won't play again period.

Thats pretty much what I mean. They dont expect him back tomorrow, they said hes going to have to rehab in AAA before he rejoins the club. I think its safe to say hes going to be gone for a couple weeks still. That would make it almost a month with out him.
