Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 500th career home run in this game, leading off the sixth inning vs. Matt Morris. Jung Bong, Gabe White, John Riedling, and Mike Matthews combined on a four-hit shutout for the Reds. It was Bong's final major-league appearance. The only hits for the Cardinals were a leadoff single by Mike Matheny in the third inning, a one-out double by Scott Rolen in the fourth, a two-out double by Jim Edmonds in the sixth, and a one-out single by Matheny in the seventh.

The Reds beat him once out of three attempts.

Just a personal thing on this date. I was the ring bearer for my oldest brother's wedding on this date 40 years ago. Time flies by. Just doesn't seem like its been that long ago.
