Ah you are correct sir.

Anyone got any updates on Lotzkar? I'm thinking he is probably going to just be shut down for the whole season, but I have no info, just a hunch.

Project ahead to the All Star break. Bailey has a few good outings for the Reds. Volquez ready to come back. No injuries to the starting staff. What gives?

Easy answer is Owings to the pen. But I think the Reds want to give him the full shot in the rotation. Overall he hasn't pitched badly.

Keep provin' me wrong Homer. I am loving this. Kudos to him for the job he's done since being sent down this last time. Lights-out good.

She doesn't even rate the question.

She's cold.

She looks kinda hot on TV, but that's because of 300 plastic surgeries (you should see her before the TV show... complete trailor trash).

And now after eight kids, I'd call her a 4 or 5 at best. At first glance, you'd say 7 though. And yes, her Arctic-like personality knocks her down a few pegs.

4 bb's to 38 K's in his last 5? Wow....

If the Reds call up Homer for Saturday's game, is that the end of his options? Is he up for good then? I'm not sure how all of that works.

His option lasts the entire year, we can send him up and down this season, but next year he must clear waivers to be sent down from the big league roster.

It's make or break time with Homer. How he performs at the major league level over the next six weeks will determine whether or not he's going to be a fixture in the Cincinnati rotation for years to come.

Disagree. He could come back and pitch well next year, not to mention August and September. Let's give the guy time to learn at the major league level while staying on a regular turn -- he hasn't had that chance yet, and I certainly do not expect him to provide his peak performance over the first 5-6 weeks of taking a regular turn.

Would like to see Homer have a bad/off game and see how he bounces back over a few starts still in AAA, to get a better idea of where he's at.

No idea what's going on with Volquez, so maybe that changes things....?

If Homer bombs in the major leagues over the next six weeks, the Reds will probably hang onto Bronson Arroyo. Furthermore, they will also probably move Bailey to another team either at the deadline (for a bat) or during the offseason under the notion that he needs a change of scenery if he is ever to reach his potential.

I'm not saying he has to pitch the way he has in AAA over the past month.
I'm just saying he can't afford to pitch the way he has in the bigs over the past two years.
If he does, you won't see him in Red next year.

Homer's last 5 starts again for reference.

Does anyone else see what is likely going to be a problem in the bigs?

Your walk totals are off. 2+0+2+1+1 = 6 and he actually threw 2 BB's yesterday. So the BB total should be 7.

Not to take away anything from Homer "F'n" Bailey.

You are correct. My math skills are going to be a problem in the bigs.

OK, besides that.

As long as Bailey stays ahead of hitters, he'll be fine. His biggest issue is falling behind in the count. As time goes, his command and control will improve, so I think he'll be fine eventually, but it wouldn't surprise me if he struggled in MLB later this year. With that said, I think you could call him up today and have him perform better than Owings.

Look at the amount of hits he is giving up to AAA hitters.

30 hits in 38 innings seems pretty reasonable considering how much luck goes into hits anyway.

Not to mention how bad that clubs IF defense is.

You're right, it is reasonable. Now project it to major league hitters.

The Bats defense is not that kind of bad, They make bonehead plays like booting a ball hit right to them and a lot of bad throws. Those don't make for hits. Those make errors.

30 hits in 38 innings?

I fail to see a big issue. Fewer hits than IP with a high K rate and solid BB rate is a recipe for success where I'm concerned.

Pretty much. Miss bats, don't hand out free passes and keep the ball in the park and you are going to have success. Bailey has done those things very well over his past 40 innings. If he can continue to do so moving forward, he will be fine.

I'm not disappointed. But having seen most of his starts this year I've noticed he gets hit hard. Meaning batters get good wood on a lot of balls. AAA hitters. His recent performance has been excellent as far as consistency and keeping runs off the board. I just don't think he's ready to face a big league lineup. The added discipline and ability he's going to see is going to have him throwing fastballs when the batter is looking fastball. I hope I'm wrong but if he starts Saturday, I think he's going to get lit up.

Problem is, there just isn't more time.

Bailey has a window now with Volquez being out and the trade deadline coming up (in 5 weeks). His performance during that time should give the Reds a good idea on what the proper next move should be- shipping out Arroyo, demoting Owings, etc. They have to make a final decision on Bailey himself by this offseason, as he is out of options for next year. I know it's been said a bunch of times, but it really is now or never for Homer and the Reds.
