I honestly can't believe that Hamilton is playing this quickly. I had him tabbed as a guy that may not sign.

It sounded from day one like he was very interested in signing. What made you think he wouldn't sign?

If you've ever been to Taylorsville, MS, you'd understand that Hamilton would want to get far away from there as quickly as he could. ;)

I noticed that Gregorious, 19, is playing SS for Sarasota. Normally, I would simply view it as a temporary assignment utilizing the convenient GCL-Sarasota shuttle. Through 57 AB's, however, he is holding his own. How does he grade out as a prospect?

I was surprised when you said he was holding his own, since last time I looked it was pretty bad. But he's been hot. 8 game hitting streak and .344 over his last 10 games.

I always thought Lehr would make a decent fifth starter in the bigs. Barring that, he'd be a fine middle reliever. He doesn't walk many and works smart. Also nice to see Stewart work to get a good game out of a poor first inning.

GOYA
06-24-2009, 09:52 PM
From what I've seen of Lehr over the last two years, he's a fine pitcher. I know he had trouble in the bigs but it's been a while. He's a poster boy for not having to blow batters away. He just knows how to pitch. Batters are off balance all night. Plus, he obviously has a splitter too.

Dorn's June has been what I expected his AAA experience to be. If he continues to hit like this, he'll get a shot. Eventually. Because of his two-month slump, though, I'm guessing that shot will be next season and he'll have to hit the ground running.

He may be one of those guys who needs Winter Ball to stay on track.

Of all the tweeners, I'm pulling for Sean Henry to make a positive contribution to the big-league club. Glad to see rebound from his slow start this season. He's been doing very well the last couple of weeks, and has HR's in back-to-back games now. 2 SB's tonight, too, while leading off.

Seriously. At this point, I don't think there is any doubt Stubbs would be--at the very least--a cheaper version of Willy T with superior D.

Being a Mississippi guy, football scholarship.... I don't know. In my head I just felt like he was more of a football player than a baseball player, but I couldn't have been more wrong!

I think we all can agree that Stubbs will be better than Taveras. We might not all agree on whether Stubbs will be a good MLB player though. I'm still skeptical (although not nearly as much as I used to be).
