How is Y-Rod 0-3 w/ 3 doubles? :)

If Hamilton can continue hitting anything like this, he is going to be a steal.

May want to tab out on the categories line so it lines up. Either that or Y Rod has managed 3 doubles without getting a hit. Impressive! ;)

Hamilton with his 3rd Encarnacion (throwing error) of the year. Yorman Rodriguez has thrown out two runners trying to go from 1st to 3rd on singles. Actually, he has thrown out the same guy twice. Guy must be a slow learner.

There's WAY too many Rodriguezes on the GCL team.

One of the more blech pitching lineups in the upper minors. Tonight is a good night to catch a movie. :p:

LeCure has won his last 3 starts and went 6.2 IP with 4H, 5K and 2 BB in his last start. He may not be a high profile guy but he's not just filler.

Hamilton is intriguing. Young, slight of build, short, and quick. Apparently, he can't play defense very well. Hes going to have to play the middle infield or CF in the major leagues. Perhaps he's nervous or, more likely, learning a new position. (IIRC, Hamilton played SS in HS.) Too bad the Reds didn't think he could play short.

Hamilton is playing SS for the GCL team. The reports I saw on Hamilton was that he had the skills to play SS but needed the reps to improve his actions there.

Anyone doubting the international influence on baseball need only to take a look at the lineups between the GCL Reds/GCL Twins game today:

GCL Twins Country
Santana Dom. Rep.
Bistagne U.S.A.
Arcia Venezuela
Lin Taiwan
Hejma Czech Rep.
Rhodes Australia
Kang S. Korea
Arias Dom. Rep.
Johnson U.S.A.
Hunt U.S.A.
Tonkin U.S.A.
Alvarez Dom. Rep.

GCL Reds
Hamilton U.S.A.
Rodriguez, Y Venezuela
Morrison U.S.A.
Duran Dom. Rep.
Rodriguez, C Dom. Rep.
Rodriguez, H Venezuela
Cech Czech Rep.
Doran U.S.A.
Guerrero Dom. Rep.
Chiu Taiwan
Henry Canada
Pizziconi Italy
Corcino Dom. Rep.

There are players representing nine different countries: Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Italy, South Korea, Taiwan, United States and Venezuela.

Of the 25 players who saw action, 18 of them are from outside the United States. The countries with the most players were the Dominican Republic and the U.S. with 7 apiece.

Can you imagine the teaching and learning difficulties presented to the coaching staffs and players on these teams? Incredible.

He threw the same runner out at 3rd base twice. I am pretty sure this was on the same play. I am equally certain that he was credited with both 2 assists and 2 putouts.

Agree -- except he's listed as 6 feet or 6'1" -- he's not short.

Interesting. Multiple sites put him at 6-6'1" and his scouting reports (Baseball America and MLB) do not mention him being short. The only player comp is to Tony Fernandez, who was a skinny six footer. I have to say I remain skeptical that a 5'9" listing is generous for this guy.

All Star basketball tourneys have a way of making normal sized guys look short. ;)

Scrap Irony
06-26-2009, 12:03 PM
Perhaps. And it may be the build making him look even smaller. But I've known a ton of kids who say they're 6'0" when they're much shorter. One of the former basketball coaches I know always lists his players as 6'0", even if they're 5'6". He said his coach did the same. In fact, I don't think I've ever known a basketball height to be correct. Almost always, it's at least three inches difference.

Yeah -- I have to agree overall. My guess is that Hamilton is around 5'10, 5'11" -- pretty regular-sized guy for baseball. He'll put on weight, too -- reports give him some power potential, and I like what I've seen of his swing. I think the kid projects as more than a little walkworker at the top of the order.

Joe Morgan was in the 5-7/5-8 range and he had seasons of 26 & 27 HRs back in the pre-juice days when 26 or 27 HRs actually meant something. If a guy has enough bat=speed, a solid eye and a decent head on his shoulder, a guy that size can succeed.

It can actually be a bit of a benefit if he's surrounded by big guys. Pitchers can try to get too fine trying to adapt to the smaller strike zone. If Hamilton can add 10-15lbs of good weight over the next 3-4 years he should be OK. Maturity should take care of a lot of that. Not sure if he's still planning on playing any football still, but Miss St. will take care of the rest if he does.
