Taveras' bad hitting serves as a distraction from the overall ineptitude of this offense. Bruce fouls out and Nix Ks on a pitch in the dirt. I guess WT was providing bad vibes from the dugout or something.

Anyone have a stat on how many times this year he's made an out trying to bunt for a hit?

Coco should never be brought into a game unless it's a save opportunity or a have to case where he's the only guy left in the pen. Walks the bases loaded, you have to question this move as well, we've seen this from him before. Why not go with Rhodes or Weathers in this spot?

At home you use the closer. There is no possible save situation in extra innings of a home game. So the correct strategy is to use him. Unfortunately, he is not having a good outing.

Maybe I'm a simpleton but I think if you're getting $12 million a year to work one inning at a time, you're expected to get those three outs whenever the team needs you, arbitrary "save" situation or not.

Super soft blooper that hit in front of a diving SS and it got thru to the OF for a walk-off single.

Only going by what they reported on the radio, after the fact, it sounds like a grounder into LF past the SS. Don't know if it was stung or not. Sounded like it was to the right place at the right time.

I don't think we can overstate Votto's value to this offense. He means a lot more to us than, should I say, more competent offenses.

From Fay:

Danny Richar was pinch-hit for in the ninth inning because he was too sore to swing the bat. He hurt himself sliding into home last night.

I'd not sure how serious the injury is -- I've got a call into Walt Jocketty -- but you've got to wonder if this could hasten Edwin Encarnacion's return.

They wouldn't want to play short against the Cardinals, would they?

I'll update if I hear back from Jocketty.

Is that correct? We left 33 men on base today? Geez!

Between today's game and yesterday's, this team scored a total of 4 runs on 23 hits, and left 52.... that's right..... 52..... men on base.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with this offense.

While I understand Benihana's sentiment and the frustration with the great unevenness of this offense, a win's a win. The club is playing about where many of us expected, with a weaker offense than I expected, but it's keeping itself around .500 thus far. That's not a small accomplishment given the team's near complete inability to produce runs. We know we have a chance to win games such as this, but little to come back from a hole such as this series' first game, down five or six runs.

I'm liking what this team accomplishes though, even with the frustrations. Maybe we're the little team that could or some such nonsense. Watching Baseball Tonight on ESPN last night from our motel room, the Reds get absolutely no respect, none. My oldest daughter is with us and she was exclaiming, "that's all they show? they spent ten minutes on the Cubs game and it's not even over!".

This team is no where near perfect and clearly the holes the decisions made by the club in the off season will have missed an opportunity (one I don't think the club expected fully for this year), I'm liking that we're keeping our heads above water. I won't give up despite frustrating games like this. The tick in the W column makes it palatable and I'll enjoy that.
