CLEVELAND -- After tonight's game, the Indians were expected to announce the addition of right-handed reliever Winston Abreu to the major-league roster.
Manager Eric Wedge did not comment on who was coming or going, but in the clubhouse, reliever Matt Herges was shaking hands.
"I got designated (for assignment),'' Herges said. "I'm not here anymore. I don't really know what my options are at this point. I'm not sure if the Indians would even want me down there (the minors).''
Herges, one of the game's nicest people, went 2-1 with a 3.55 ERA in 21 appearances.
"I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this place,'' he said. "I will never not say quality things about this organization. This is baseball. This is the business of baseball. I get it.''
The Tribe acquired Abreu, 32, from Tampa Bay on Thursday. They sent the Rays right-hander John Meloan from Class AAA Columbus and cash.
