Tall order for Walt, but a big step in righting the ship.

Prediction: Yankees

I think you are right. Good match up. They need starters who can give them innings, and have a good farm system. They need a lefty in the pen too, so I would love to see the Reds package Arroyo and Rhodes for 2-3 top 10 Yankee prospects.

I'll take the "Freedy Sez" guy in return if they just take his contract.

I highly doubt the Yankees are interested in Arroyo. Hughes is a better option for them IMO. They could be interested in Harang, but Arroyo as a Yankee would not last very long. He has a couple of those 8 run innings in New York and he would get boo'ed out of the stadium.

My wife would like to trade for Bronson, but I'm not sure what the Reds would do with me.

The real news will be that the Reds were able to trade him....

I cant see the Yankees letting Arroyo even pitch in their new band box!! Cant imagine how many more homeruns he would give up at the New Yankee stadium..

The Mets on the other hand ...

Except they've fallen out of the race.

I think PHI is the right target for Arroyo or Harang if they don't get Halladay. If not them, maybe Anaheim would work, but we've had better luck historically getting deals done with PHI.

PHI would be doing us a favor if they took Arroyo off our hands and gave us anything of substance in return, much like they took Rick White off our hands.

Although I don't remember getting anything of substance in return.

Nothing like trading marginal talent for nothing.

The Yanks are in on Arroyo but want cash relief on the remaining 17 Million owed. Per MLBTradeRumors.com

The problem is the Reds have far too much nothing and or marginal talent.

Sure, why shouldn't the Reds be sending money to the Yankees?

A couple of trade rumors involving the Reds are making the rounds today:

--Jon Heyman of si.com says the Reds and Yankees are talking about Bronson Arroyo. But the Yankees want the Reds to pay some of his salary. This sounds plausible. The Yankees are looking for a starter. Arroyo's pitched well lately -- save the three inherited runners that scored on the Manny slam. But I don't think the Reds are going to pay much of what Arroyo's owed. They've got to look at moving either him or Aaron Harang to give them payroll flexibility for next year. It doesn't make sense to do that if you're going to pay part of the salary anyway.

"It doesn't make sense to do that [trade Arroyo or Harang for salary relief] if you're going to pay part of the salary anyways."

Not exactly. If the salary is $11 and you pay $4, you save $7.

No?
