We have a lot of these guys right now. It's certainly a lot better to have these no power guys than no eye guys imo. Hope they all get that power stroke.

I don't know about the great plate discipline. According to his BB totals, he has good plate discipline, nothing more. And I've heard the claims about great D before. Let's just put a star next to his name and see in, say, four years or so.

Rojas is only 20. And he's only 160 pounds. Of course, he's only 5-9, so he might not be able to get much heavier. But you've got to feel pretty good about his upside, especially considering that he's got about a 400 OBP in July. As a hitter, he seems to be getting better as the season goes on.

Coddington's another good-bat, no power guy who's blossomed this year. Only 21, he has questions with a pretty high K rate, the lack of power, and his arm. I'm really hoping he's Hanigan minus eight years.

And I'd like to see what Lehr can do. He's never really been given a good shot. Perhaps he's for real. Probably not, but it's worth a shot.

Dayton is quickly becoming my favorite team to follow (that includes the Reds). With guys like Fellhauer, Coddington, Wiley, Puckett, Rojas, Means, Sulbaran, Fairel, Serrano, Ravin, Joseph, Infante, theres a lot of borderline prospects there who weren't highly touted (sans Sulbaran) who have done nothing but put up numbers. Kudos to Benzinger who has really turned that god-awful club into something nice to watch.

Agreed, mem. If Rodriguez can continue to hit well in Billings, he becomes real interesting in Dayton next year. Hope that power remains. Like to see it, regardless.

On another note, last year, the Red pipeline was lousy with 3b. This year it's CF. Hope next year it's SS.

What changed other than where he was playing baseball?not who you were asking but IMO...

The fact that the Reds think highly enough of Yorman to have him participating in a league against former college players at the age of 16. I knew the Reds thought highly of the young Stormin' Yorman, but didn't know it was high enough to warrant a promotion at such a young age.

Um, yes.

Isn't that obvious? But thanks for spelling it out, Grande.

If he's really ready for that level, at that tender age, and has any kind of success, he is on a trajectory to be a special prospect.

Of course, minor-league wins and losses are a small part of the story. That said, how tough was it for Billings to just get swept by Missoula in a 4-game series in which:

* Missoula twice won on walkoffs in the bottom of the 9th
* Billings led one game 4-1 in the 7th and another 7-1 in the 9th (that's right, 7-1 in the 9th)
* Billings outhit, I said outhit, Missoula for the series, 39-29.

His potential was being realized in the GCL too. I just don't see how the fact that he is doing it in Billings makes it all of a sudden exciting, or at least any more exciting than if he did it in the GCL. Sure, the competition level is a little better, but what Yorman was doing was already very impressive.

Since he's up a level against tougher competition and the Reds, an organization that is hesitant to move up prospects unless they're truly ready, I'd say that's certainly reason enough for the optimism.

Validation. By moving him up to a level seldom seen by 16-year-olds, the Reds have validated the perception that he is way ahead of the normal pace, and a special talent.

Yes.

And, Doug, c'mon. Who knows what the GCL really means? It's hard enough to get box scores out of those games, much less live in person eyewitnesses to what is going down. It is, by and large, a mystery level.

So, yeah, it's a huge deal that the 16-year-old has bubbled out of there to go to Montana with the college types. Better yet, there will be plenty of people that can actually lay eyes on him now, so the thoughts of the select few who have seen him can be supplemented. Which will be nice.

Eh, the fact that the Reds promoted a guy who they gave $2M last year to high rookie ball, even at his age, doesn't change much to me. The kid is still incredibly raw, which speaks to how good he can be given what he has done to this point despite that rawness.

Still, it will be nice to get pictures, video and even eye witness reports from his game time, something we wouldn't get much of in terms of the GCL (although I have received one report from the GCL this season). To me though, it doesn't make him more or less exciting. Something about a 16 year old who drew comparisons to Eric Davis and Carlos Beltran left me plenty excited when he signed. Making it to Billings at age 16 isn't going to make it even more exciting than that.

I don't care who he has drawn comparisons too, frankly. It is whether there is any way he can ever come within 10 miles of those comparisons that interests me. That he's already been moved to Montana at the tender age of 16 gives me some initial hope that perhaps he can.

So, yeah, that's why it is noteworthy for me.

I just worry about rushing the kid. I get sick of the players that can't run the bases, don't know how to field, or slide back in to first on a pick off throw. These things get taught along the way.

Red didn't hope at the Shank, mem. He found hope in the hayfield by Buxton. Under the rock that had no business in a Maine hayfield.

And I agree with your assertion as well. 16 in Montana means 21 in The Show is possible. 21 in The Show means a greater chance of a really good player. A player to get excited about.
