Very interesting piece by Tim Kurkjian on the development of the 100 pitch barrier and pitch counts in general. He starts the story with an anecdote of a visiting pitcher begging out of a start in DC last July after 90 pitches. There was only one pitcher who threw that exact number in DC last July, so unless he changed the facts here is the game. (Brett Myers threw 88 pitches and Jaime Moyer went 92 later in the month in other games in DC.)

There have been comments this year about Owings and his in game durability. I found the possible connection interesting. If it is Owings, Kurkjian does not point out that he had missed the prior start with an injured gluteus.

I was under the impression that the pitcher begging out of the game was Erik Bedard when he was with the Orioles.
