It's a game thread!

Dickerson 7,
Taveras 8,
Votto 3,
Phillips 4,
Balentien 9,
Gonzalez 6,
Sutton 5
Tatum 2,
Bailey 1

Not a good way to start things off Homer. 1st and 2nd Albert coming up.

The Reds are going to do their best to make Dickerson a corner outfielder. Even though he clearly is much better in CF.

Pujols hits it back at Bailey who knocks it down and then throws the ball away into right field. 2-0 Cards.

And they are taking Bailey out of the game.

Reds Fanatic

The ball was lined off the side of his ankle. He is still standing in the dugout and does not really look too bad standing there but he is out of the game.

Another pitcher bites the dust for the Reds. Open tryouts to start Thursday.

Are they taking him out or does he want out?

Reds Fanatic

Fisher is coming in to pitch. So Monday the bullpen had to pitch 7 innings and tonight they have to cover a full game.

Bailey still looks fine -- almost seems like he's being benched for the throw.

Are they taking him out or does he want out?It is strange usually after getting hit like that they will have the pitcher throw some warm up tosses but they pretty much yanked him immediately.

Dusty didn't look like he was upset. I think the Reds are in over reaction mode because of what happened to Edison.

He threw 1 pitch and walked off on his own.

Taveras attempts to make a diving catch on the warning track the ball pops out and Pujols scores. That did not look like a ball he should have had to dive on. Most center fielders make that play.

Taveras should be getting an error on that. Pitiful, just pitiful.

I think if that play in center was somebody else, they would've been cut at least a LITTLE slack. It was NOT an easy play. He came down hard and the ball unfortunately got jarred loose. But hey, it's Taveras so it's obviously a play that "everybody" could make.

It was a nice effort, just an unfortunate result.

Pujols with a long homer off the facing between the 1st and 2nd decks. 4-0 Cards.

Can't fault Carlos too much. Balls 1 and 2 were both borderline....and you are not going to get those calls on AP. Homer had him struck out in the 1st....umps aren't going to tick Albert off.

Fisher pitched around Pujols for three pitches. Why didn't he just walk him? Grooved one to him with the obvious result. Intelligence is not something that can be taught.

Doesn't mean he shouldn't get the same strike zone as everyone else.

After he dropped it the first words out of Brantley's mouth was "that is why Dickerson should be playing CF". Not that he knows all but both he and Marty made immediate comments about how bad he is and that play was. Basically circling the ball just to make it look difficult.

For the record, I was in the car and didn't see it.

With age comes wisdom. Fisher is still a rookie cut the kid some slack.

I know. It just boggles my mind how after 3-0 you think you can actually can get him out. Just put him on. I used to watch Bonds and wonder why pitchers grooved pitches to him. It makes no sense. Fisher has really pitched well other than that and against this club, that's no mean feat.

I saw it. He should've caught it.
Even Welsh, who is the perfect homer, said the same thing. Chris called it taking a bad route to the ball. I find no redeeming qualities in the play of Willy Taveras. None. It has more to do with inept hitting and poor fielding than the popularity of bashing him. He deserves it.

But -- dude gets one of four consecutive hits and the Reds have two in, Phillips at second, Votto at third. Reds within three.

Phillips with the two RBIs.

Then Wlad is called out on strikes, so two out. Nix pops out to end the inning and the rally. Cards by three.

Maddox would never throw one in the strike zone to Pujols.

Is Dickerson that bad running the bases or his eyesight bad?

The Mad Hungarian is basically saying that Pujols and now Carpentar will get those calls....as if it is a given.

It is and will continue to be garbage and we need machines calling balls and strikes....i have said at least in 25% of my posts. I am loads of fun at parties.

Tony Cloninger
08-12-2009, 11:27 PM
In his most patient AB all year....when you expect him to swing at anything...he took a close pitch that looked low enough to be called a ball by anyone throwing on the Reds but with Saint Carpenter it is of course a strike

I can understand why some of the most optimistic members of this great forum get tired of reading negative stuff about Willy Taveras.

The truth is everyone is tired of sayin' negative stuff about Taveras but he deserves it.

We should expect those negative comments to continue as long as he starts in CF and bats in the first inning.

It's a cold hard fact of life.

At this point, I accept that. He has shown no signs of being able to work himself out of an extended period of poor ABs and uneven play in CF. In my view, the team needs to move on in some concrete fashion. Dickerson is healthy, Balentien is here. Sutton has played some OF.

Will be interesting to see how Baker handles the Washington series. They're non-contenders, so presumably he will no longer be beholden to the notion that he must play his best lineup (which we know always includes Taveras at the top). I'll believe it when I see it...
