The sad thing was, at the time, I didn't think that 2008 OD Reds lineup could look any worse. Was I ever wrong!

After a struggle for last, the Reds came through and just overpowered the Pirates into last place tonight! Worst of the worst baby!! Bryce Harper here we come :D

5 games out of first place at the all star break and 9-26 since. The Reds are in a free fall and the the thud you heard was them hitting the basement. The last time they finished last in their division was 1983... 26 years ago. In 1982, the Reds set the franchise record with 101 loses. If they continue at the current pace, they may lose a 100 games.

Im predicting two more reds to be traded

Jonny Gomes
and one of Aaron Harang,Bronson Arroyo or Coco Cordero

Worst of the worst sounds a bit over the top...after all...we are still 8 games behind the Nationals! We have our work cut out for us this last month of the season to be worst of the worst.

Let's play a little game. I will give you an offensive stat and you tell me whether it represents the 2009 Reds or the 1982 Reds (who lost 101 games). Please don't cheat. I will take vites (via posts) until 1:00 and then I will go on to the next stat.

Stat #1
.251 Batting Average

Yay! The Reds move ahead of another team in the drive for Bryce. Harper that is. Those Gnats need to cooperate. If the Reds can play down to potential for another six weeks I think it is going to be a coin toss. Geaux Reds!!!!

This is a trick question. .251 is the combined OBP of Willy Taveras and Alex Gonzalez; the hitters Dusty "Injuries might save my job" Baker insisted on filling the top two spots of the line up day after day after day.

I would have to say ummm uummm 1982. Heck 2009 has a 1982 feel to it anyway. So I think either choice is correct.

1 point for Texasdave! 2009 BA is .239 (w/ a blazing .216 after the all Star break).

Stat #2
.309 OBP

Im embarassed....I never have been through all these crap years but this year has broken me. My Reds are awful and the front office is clueless. All hope is lost.

This thread was started on 8-22 and the next day, the reds won to move "out" of last place.
I was looking at standings and the reds since that game have went from one half game behind the pirates to 11 + games ahead of Pittsburgh.
Now I know we are talkin about the Pirates but still, to make a 11 game difference in under a month is not to shabby.
Also...I think that next game coincided with Rolen getting back in lineup. :)

Very much agree...just goes to show once again, what could have been.

This season was awful. For all the hope I had coming into 2009, and all the excitement, I'll think twice next year no matter what dog & pony show they march out there. I mean what are they gonna sell us on that we haven't heard before? This year just wasn't fun. I'll get excited if they fire Brook Jacoby. Thats it.

Can we catch the Brewers and finish in third ? They would appear to have the tougher remaining schedule than we do.

:redcap: = 3rd NL Central ?
