Dickerson, Haingan placed on the DL, McDonald, Miller up

The Reds placed Chris Dickerson and Ryan Hanigan on the disabled list. They called up Darnell McDonald and Corky Miller from Louisville to take their roster spots

It really doesn't matter who they brought up or did not at this point to me. But can someone tell me why this team needs 5 outfielders at this point?

They don't, which is why the only have 4.5 right now with the call up of McDonald.

Somehow, despite Stubbs being up, I think Dusty will find a way to straight platoon he and McDonald.

Someone in the four that remained was going to lose playing time, now with the 5th coming up, it should be reasonable to assume that all five will lose more playing time now. I don't get it. But I am not the brightest bulb in the package to start with.

Do your thing, Dusty! Make sure you spread around that playing time, we don't want McDonald getting rusty.

Don't they still have to make a move to replace Harang? Or are they going to wait until his turn comes up?

Worse yet, McDonald gets playing time, hits like he did in Louisville, and the Reds bring him back and give him a shot at a starting OF position.

Beat me to it. On the bright side, they are at least entertainingly bad. I passed from frustration to amusement a long time ago.

I agree... it's bad, past the point of frustration, but I keep watching.

I do, however, blame part of it on the number of players that are out of the game and have been for awhile. And more keep dropping. Must be something in the water.

Dusty probably likes Darnell's swing.

Gotta say, I'm a Corky Miller fan. Just am. Saw him up close for quite awhile out by the bullpen in Syracuse a few weeks back, and the guy is just a lifer. Non-drafted free agent, like Hanigan, and he's done OK for himself. It's like, what else is the guy going to do. He was born to be a catcher. I root for guys like that.

No kidding. I'm legitimately worried about this possibility.

I will say, it's almost more fun to watch this team now. It's like watching a DII school play one of those early season games against a DI squad. If they win, that's awesome. If they compete, it's admirable. If they lose, oh well, they were the clearly inferior team anyways.

I just wanted to check to see how many games these guys played before this season.
I want to see if they brought in guys who had missed significant playing time before, for one reason or another.

Most of these guys had some baggage before the 2009 season

How will the Reds make room for McDonald and Miller on the 40-man roster? I'm assuming that a couple of guys (maybe Volquez, Harang, Lincoln, or Richar) will be transferred to the 60-day DL.

Good grief guys, what are the Reds supposed to do?! They basically brought up some warm bodies to try to get through the next few weeks after two more players went down with injury. You guys act like we have better player options somewhere and we don't right now. I think we've all ready got more than half of Louisville's team here so there's not much left there anymore. I can't believe how much crap has happened to this team. I'll be completely content if they can get through the rest of the season without someone spontaneously combusting on the field.
