Gee! I just realized how much I missed listening to Lou Holtz and Mark May give halftime analysis.

NOT!

Holtz just said that Charlie Weis is the most under-rated coach in college football.

The Buckeyes did their very best to give all their fans a stroke today. Pryor didn't look too bad overall but they have to make some BIG improvements before USC comes to town. Next week may be the game that flat out kills me, LOL

Last year's Midshipmen team went 8-5 overall and possessed some talent. I thought they'd give the Bucks a good game, but I didn't think it ould this close. Navy graduated a lot of talent last year, other then Dobbs, who was very impressive.

Not sure about OSU's O-line and their LBing corp this year.

Oops.

498 yards of total offense against Bud Foster's defense.

Who expected that?

I'll wait till after Monday's Cincy-Rutgers game to post the 1st week standings.

Congratulations to the following though for going 10-0 in the Big 10 ....

HeatherC1212, kaldaniels, Spring~Fields, and yours truly.

Several others went 9-1 (I think they all picked Illinois over Missouri)

So far, in GAC's FIVE , we all took a hit on that Oklahoma loss.

Who in the world would pick Miami (OH) over Kentucky? :D

Haven't had internet most of the weekend, can't believe I missed week 1, wasn't even thinking!

Every fiber of my being says that USC will beat OSU next weekend. But I BLEED Scarlet and Gray, and I absolutely, positively refuse to pick them to lose.

It bites me every single time, as it did last year. But one of these days I figure it'll make me look smart :).

Yeah, you're probably right. I should have taken that one instead. The first two weeks of the season the "pickins" are pretty slim except for a few choice match-ups.

NOTES:

The Fresno State-Wisconsin game, if it's like recent match-ups, should be close and a good game. I picked FS last year, and, I think (if memory serves me), had the game won, until a last second scoring drive by the Badgers.

Lou Holtz says that ND will destroy Michigan. He's loyal, and I think they will win..... but he's still crazy as a loon. ;)

I picked my Buckeyes, but once again, this little voice inside me says we're gonna lose. Only the score will be closer. ;)

Possible upsets? Would W Michigan beating Indiana be an upset?

So aren't you all glad I didn't put that Oklahoma State-Houston game in the schedule? Of course I'm sure there will be those that would have taken Houston.

No one went undefeated in either category, other then cumberlandreds, who went 5-0 in GAC's Five. That UCLA-Tenn tripped up most of us.

That match-up has almost become a rivalry between these two schools. Fresno State and Wisconsin have met four times since 2001. The Badgers now lead the series 3-1, but it hasn't come easy. The first two games took place in Madison, with the Bulldogs winning the first meeting 32-20 in 2001 and Wisconsin prevailing 23-21 the following year. Last year, Wisconsin won 13-10. This year it took the Badgers dbl overtime to pull out a 34-31 win.

You're right I saw that and was scrutinizing Toledo. I am sure that Ohio State will win that game though, teams that lose close, often fair very well the next time. Akron and Arizona, well, I was getting some kind feeling on them, probably nothing.

I'm surprised no one has picked Minnesota over Cal. Minnesota isn't all that bad, plus they are at home and playing at noon which will feel like 9:00 AM to Cal's players. The last time Cal played a game that early was last year at Maryland where they played very sloppy and lost. I wouldn't be shocked if Minnesota wins that game.

I agree that Minn. has a chance in the game to pull off the upset. It's just hard to pick them to win against a top 10 team under any circumstances. It's certainly 1 of the games I'll be keeping an eye on this weekend.Could be a huge win for the Big 10 but in the end I feel pretty sure that Cal wins.

Congratulations, Mr. Blessed. :KoolAid:

So what time are you picking each of us up? :)

To be honest buddy -you were on my short list. But I gave the other ticket to my younger brother in Urbana because it was his B-day, and he has helped me a lot here over the last week getting my daughter's car ready for her to take to college. He saved me a lot of money over the last few days doing some repairs.

We'll think about you when we're tail-gating. :p:

GAC
09-20-2009, 09:12 AM
Well... needless to say, that N. Illinois-Purdue game screwed all of us. And looking, overall, at how "mediocre" we all did on the GAC's 5 picks (most went either 3-2 or 2-3) we all may have been drinking Boilermakers.

Of course - I don't think most would have thought FSU would even have a chance vs BYU. Let alone basically destroy them. Ouch! But then, anything can happen on any given day in college football, right?

HOW ABOUT THEM USC TROJANS!!!!!

Finally.... I would really appreciate it if someone/ anyone would "proof read" my final standings when I post them to insure I'm not screwing them up or omitting anything. I enjoy doing it every Sunday morning; but you guys are trusting a guy who had to bribe the math teacher, when in school, just to get a D.

Meh, that one was a huge toss up for me. One one hand, MSU has put up some decent points but not a great defense, and on the other, Wisconsin hasn't looked totally together as a team yet either way, so it was a total crapshoot for me to pick a winner. I just took a wild guess but I can totally see that game going either way right now. *shrugs*

ARTICLE 6. Any forward pass is completed when caught by a player of the passing team who is inbounds, and the ball continues in play unless completed in the opponent’s end zone or the pass has been caught simultaneously by opposing players. If a forward pass is caught simultaneously by opposing players inbounds, the ball becomes dead and belongs to the passing team (Rule 2-2-7) (A.R. 2-2-7-III and A.R. 7-3-6-I-IX).

The Big 10 is Ohio State's to lose now. Penn State getting beat at home by an Iowa team that nearly lost to Northern Iowa in the opener, Michigan getting taken to task, although winning by Indiana at home. Maybe Wisconsin, but they've looked shaky as well. The lack of respect appears to be warranted this season.

Yes, I believe UC is on a bye this week and that game with USF is the Thursday night game unless the newspeople lied to me the other night, LOL :p:

I'm not making my choices until a little later this week. After all the weirdness that happened this past weekend, I really need a break to refresh my brain, LOL

Isn't the UC-SF game in week 7???

Wow! You're right. Brain fart on my part.

I'm not going to count the UC-SF game this week. Mainly because I'd have to wait till next Friday, after the game results, to figure up the standings.

So to those that have already made your predictions, take note that I'm not going to count it.

And to those yet to make your predictions, don't include the UC-SF game.

I will include it in the WEEK 7 schedule though. It ought to be a good game.

I have a question to any Buckeye fan concerning next Saturday's game vs Wisconsin....

My brother and I have tickets. I've been to games there before, and I'm pretty familiar with the Columbus area. But it has been a few years since my last game.

But to those that may live there, go to games on a more regular basis.... where is a good place to park, what time should we get there, and more importantly..... WHERE DOES ALL THE TAIL-GATING TAKE PLACE! :D

I would appreciate any input. Thanks!

I would plan on getting there about 3-4 hours before kickoff. You can park north of the stadium by the baseball field or near the Fawcett center off of Ackerman Rd. This is also where a good amount of the tailgating is. You can also park on West campus and take the bus over, but then you have to take the bus and there is less tail gating (if any). Most of the lots closer to the stadium are for RVs or season ticket holders so you'll probably have to hike at least a mile no matter what.
The bars on Lane and High are also a good time before the game if you don't have a tailgate to go to.

#7 USC @ Notre Dame.... but I'm rootin' for ND!
Texas Tech @ #21 Nebraska

Oh GAC is just nervous over taking Indiana over Illinois and Iowa over Wisconsin, it’s his way of “a cry for help“.

Unfortunately I am too, that is why I haven’t posted yet, I am in a state of vacillation over those two games, and GAC is right on my bumper in the standings. I have to sleep on those two.

vacillation or vegetation? I see you finally woke up and went with Illinois and Wisconsin.

Maybe this year for Christmas, instead of a Red Ryder BB gun, Santa will leave you some gonads under the tree?

My Gawd! Does OSU have an offensive line? So far, this half, they're simply terrible in stopping penetration.

Right now, OSU is playing like a deer in the headlights. Got to turn the game off because it is upsetting me too much. Watching Oklahoma-Texas.

What a pathetic offensive line.

I think we're learning this year just how good Chris Wells really was.

Gotta love Jim Tressel swapping tackles in an out as well. Offensive linemen play so much better while looking over their shoulder. That offense is so pathetic. Lets look at some of the talent playing over their coming out of high school.

QB Pryor 5 Star Recruit
RB Saine 4 Star Recruit
WR Posey 5 Star Recruit
WR Sanzenbacher 2 Star but he does his job. A good player.
WR's Thomas, Small, Carter all 4 Star Recruits
OL Mike Adams 5 Star
OL JB Shugarts 5 Star
OL Mike Brewster 5 Star
OL Justin Boren 5 Star to Michigan
OL Bryant Browning 3 Star Least of the problems currently.
TE Ballard 3 Star but effective when called on.

Someone needs fired. This is a coaching problem.

I stopped commenting on their offense. MWM years ago, maybe 3, maybe 4 years ago shoot maybe it was 5 years ago now, but MWM painted the perfect picture regarding Ohio State offense in a post. To this day I wish I had saved it because it is relevant every game, every season, it was that well written. Nothing has changed since that time, and he was right then and still is. It is not that I have a problem with MWM being so right, it is that I am bothered that Ohio State has not corrected what he pointed out long ago.

It's simply pathetic.

We're playing against the 2nd worst defense, in every category, in the Big 10, and this is what we do?

1st half numbers....

OSU Purdue

Total Net yards 107 211
Total Plays 26 47
Net Yards Passing 71 177
Completion-Attempts 5-9 21-35

This is a pitiful effort by OSU. Now 4 turnovers

My Gawd Tressell.... you need to intervene here and bench Pryor this game. He's rattled, and his head is nowhere in this game. He just threw another INT. That's 5 turnovers, and 4 of them are all Pryor.

Pryor is not now, nor will he ever be a pocket passer(he lacks toughness and accuracy). Trying to make him one is a losing proposition. If you are going to play him you have to be willing to spread the field and let him use his athletic ability

Boilermaker TD. They're making it look easy.

23-7

Game over as far as I'm concerned.

23-7 Purdue. Probably the worst effort I have ever seen from Ohio State

If Tressel doesn't bench Pryor here I might have lost all faith in him as a coach.

not about Pryor, it's a coaching issue

It's about a quarterback that is completely rattled and yet the coaching staff leaves him in. Do you honestly think Pryor can do anything right now? I certainly don't. Bauserman is your only option to win right now IMO.

Tressel certainly has a lot of blame to take too right now. He obviously isn't watching the same game I am or the same QB.

This offense couldn't beat a HS defense right now with Pryor throwing the ball.
