CHICAGO -- New Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts and team president Crane Kenney are expected to petition Major League Baseball for the 2014 All-Star Game, a league source told ESPNChicago.com reporter Bruce Levine.

During a one-on-one with Levine, Ricketts didn't deny pursuing the game was part of his agenda.

"It would be off the charts," Ricketts said when asked what it would mean to the fans. "It would be magical. Let's hope we have that opportunity."

The All-Star Game would be part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Wrigley Field. By that time, the Ricketts family is expected to have spent between $200 million and $300 million in renovations on Wrigley.

Wrigley Field hosted the All-Star Game in 1946, 1962 and 1990.

I don't care want anniversary they're having, the GABP needs it before they get a ASG.

I mean.... I'm starting to wonder if I'll live to see us gettin an All-Star game. That's almost 5 years out. Can we please make a push and secure an All-Star game? We've had a new park for 6 years now. This is getting frustrating

30 teams, and the Reds last had it in, what, 1988? Let the complaining start in 2018.

Reds are the only team with a new park not to host an all star game

Can anyone make an argument, other than that we haven't had one in a long time, for why MLB SHOULD come to Cincy?

GABP is boring for MLB standards. What is there around the stadium for fans? I can easily see why MLB doesn't want to be in Cincy for the time being.

I dont really get the new park means deserve an All Star game deal, but it seems like that has been the fashion. Put a schedule up, you dont get a game til levery other tema has had one, then start a new rotation.

Ok, with that logic: Cincy hosted in 1988, Chicago hosted in 1990. therefore, Cincy should host again before Chicago.
Also, Pittsburgh has hosted 2 ASG's since 1994?, i think. explain that!

Hell, it should be at PNC Park every year. Such a nice stadium like that deserves more than the team it is granted every year.

I'll reiterate what I posted on a similar thread about a different all-star game...

I'd love to see the Reds push for 2019...sure it's a ways off, but it's the 150th anniversary of "baseball" and Cincinnati baseball...could be an amazing weekend celebrating the Reds and MLB History...
