-Nebraska's defense is epic
-Nebraska's offense is an epic fail
-Texas will be slaughtered if they play Alabama like they are today
-This is one of the most boring games I have ever watched
-The kid out of Stanford or Ingram from Alabama should take the heisman. McCoy is playing like ragamuffins in the biggest game of the season
-Who plays Alabama if Texas loses?? Texas Christian Horn Frogs? Cincinnati? Florida?

Are you implying that Big 12 officials are referring this game and the results will say yay or nay to millions of dollars coming into the conference? paintmered, the college game is only played for the love of the game ;)

That punt return was beasty!! Woo

paintmered
12-05-2009, 10:56 PM
First and goal for Nebraska off the punt return. Surely even this offense can go 9 yards, right?

And I'm not suggesting anything nefarious with the officiating. It was just a horrible call.

Bo Pellini continues the Dantonio "run and punt" offense and is looking at 3rd down. Pathetic.

How does Texas have a legitimate claim for the BCS Championship when they play like this against such an inept offense at essentially a home game?

thatcoolguy_22
12-05-2009, 11:03 PM
Before the 1st and Goal play my coworker said they will kick when its 4th and go from the 15...

3 first downs and 63 NET yards in over 3 quarters

Contrary to popular belief, Nebraska can, in fact, complete a pass for a first down.

Huskers in field goal range now.

Nebraska is in FG range with less than 3 minutes left

This game is the exact opposite of the UC-Pitt game.....all defense with very little offense. Crazy!

Conservative play call on 3rd down sets up the 45 yard field goal.

12-10 in the slowest game in history. TCU for the win

I get a kick out of the "Texas is overrated, Alabama will crush them" responses. As if college football were so simplistic that a close championship game suddenly impacts the result of two of the best teams in the country.

I happen to think, like most everyone, that 'Bama is the best team in the country. I actually have thought that essentially all year. But everyone is kidding themselves if they think Texas won't give Alabama everything they can handle and more.

Heck, a week ago, Texas couldn't play defense but their offense was nearly unstoppable. That particular week, I believe there were some folks saying they would get destroyed because their defense is overrated. Now, their offense takes that title.

I promise. On January 7, Texas will be in that game.

Texas hasn't played a defense anywhere near as good as Alabama, they aren't going to score a lot of points.

I've gotten to watch Texas and Bama plenty this year, and I think the comments about Texas getting torched are correct. Alabama wins that game by 2 touchdowns at least.

Texas has never impressed me all that much. They weren't very good last year in the Fiesta Bowl against OSU, with our defense handling them pretty easily for the majority of the game.

They're a solid team, but Alabama will smoke them off the field. Mount Cody is going to be running through that line all day long.

It can be argued that, despite the game today, Alabama also hasn't seen an offense as good as Texas. Florida has not exactly been lighting up the scoreboard this year. And remember: last week, Bama actually got beat up at the line of scrimmage pretty good by Auburn until the Tigers got a bit too conservative in the second half.

I think Alabama is the best team in the country. I mean that. But I'll actually be somewhat surprised if Texas doesn't win. Just a good hunch.

Wow.

Wonder how much will be made of this?

I don't feel too badly for Nebraska, as it did appear there should have been a second left. But on the other hand... if the rules didn't permit for that, the game by technicality should have been over and there would not have been a reason to review the clock.

Apparently there was an addendum made in 2008 to the Big 12 rules (that above link was created in 2007).

The addendum adds this:

12-3-3-h (formerly f) (FR-146)
Add: The Instant Replay Official may correct an egregious game-clock error.

Ah okay. I don't know if a half second is considered egregious, but there is at least some wiggle room in there for the officials now.

McCoy says he didn't know rule

NEW YORK -- Texas quarterback Colt McCoy didn't realize the football must hit something before the clock stops when he tossed away a pass at the end of Longhorns' 13-12 victory against Nebraska -- a gaffe that nearly left his team with no time to kick the game-winning field goal.

McCoy says he thought the clock stopped on a pass out of bounds as soon as it crossed the first-down marker. Had he known the rule, he says, he wouldn't have floated a long and high pass over the bench area that didn't touch down until it appeared to hit a railing near the stands.

After McCoy's pass, the clock hit :00 and the Cornhuskers began to celebrate. But one second was put back on after officials looked at a replay, enough time for Texas to kick the winning field goal.
